I have been to Russia several times, and have flown twice on their planes...never again. Now Aeroflot on international flights uses Boeing 767, 777, and AirBus. All Aeroflot international planes are very well maintained, and they have a good safety record. Domestic Russian flights have one of the worst records in the business, and their planes are not being replaced.

The Interfax news agency quoted Ukrainian Emergency Situations Ministry spokesman Igor Krol as saying a fire broke out on the plane at 32,800 feet and that the crew decided to try to make an emergency landing.

Didn't a couple of muslim women blow themselves up on russian airliners in the past couple of years?According to this table at milnet, yes!
8/24/2004 Moscow Two separate Russian airline flights (a Tu-134 and Tu-154) explode, later it is determined that two Chechnyan women roommates boarded the separate flights and timed the explosions to occur within minutes of each other. 90 people aboard two aircraft were killed.

The plane reportedly had sent a distress message.Did that distress call rhyme with "mallahu mukbar"?
To: janetjanet998
Do we know yet if there were any Americans on the flight?
To: janetjanet998
