Only if there's only one man left on earth and there's no one else to teach him but women.

Why is this even in the mainstream news? A church is a private institution. They should be left alone as long as they abide by the law of the land. I can't see how any law has been violated by this particular church prohibiting this woman from teaching in a volunteer situation. Many religions including protestant christian groups, interpret all scripture literally. Other groups believe that scripture is a living breathing document open to interpretation based on the present culture. (Sound familiar?)

I Cor 14: 33B - 34 (NIV). As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says.

As someone else in this thread pointed out, submission does not mean being dominated. It means a voluntary acceptance of authority, such as submission to governmental authorities.

Hey, if St Paul was OK with it, who am I to say no?

Should a woman be allowed to teach Scripture to men?

Sure, why not?

A few great women of the church come to mind: St. Catherine of Siena (proclaimed Doctor of the Church) St. Teresa of Avila to name two. They both taught men the teachings of Christ.

Of course they should. I guess I will need to read all the replies to see any reason why not.

I see no scriptural prohibition in having women teach children. However, the prohibitions against having women teach men is quite clear, Paul even going on to state that "this is the defacto truth for all the churches of God". This is also a reason why the Catholic church will never have women priests.

Besides, when in history have you seen a denomination that has ordained women or given them authority in a church and then hasn't started a slippery slide into either a radical Charismatic (barking like dogs, name it claim it) or extreme liberal (gay marriage, etc) heresy?

Forget about what Muslims think.

On this case, the Bible says no.

It is clear in the Bible that women are not to have leadership positions in the church, and in the home. It is very specific about the man being the "decider". However, the Bible also tells men to respect their wives.

For this specific question on whether this applies to teachers is up to individual denominations, and indeed, individual churches within denominations. I'll ask God later who is correct, because I certainly don't know.

To me, this seemed like a crappy thing to do to this lady, but it is up to her now to accept it or find another church.

What wimpy Alexandrian Text-based version was that?

The KJB is so much more firm, not to mention more accurate to the vast majority of the Greek manuscripts extant (Textus Receptus; Majority Text).

"Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
"But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
"For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
"And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression." (1 Tim. 2:11-14)

That is only one of a series of Scripture passages on the same subject that is the Authority for our ministry and for the churches we plant. Older women teach younger women a particular set of subjects as outlined in Titus chapter 2, but women neither teach men, nor hold any position of authority over men in the assembly of the church. Women do not teach in any Sunday school class where there are boys older than ten years old. Eleven year old and older boys are under male Bible teachers. Women may teach classes of all girls.

We do not have one-person-one-vote in our church. Our local church is governed by the consensus of the heads of households, with certain of these heads delegated to survey any needs of widows or other single women that may need to be addressed.

Just can't resist this....... the "why" of this whole controversy can be laid at the feet of man's natural distrust of women. Just look at the historical agenda: God made the world.....and then rested. Then God made man.....and then rested. Then God made woman......and since then, neither God nor man has rested........(running for flameproof cover).

Picking and choosing lines from the Bible, and then using them as a weapon in assorted and sundry venues of mortals, as the inerrant word of "God," can lead to all kinds of mischief, and often does.
