If you can convince yourself that most of Scripture is nothing but a fable, like Hansel and Gretel, it makes it much easier to dismiss, in which case Satan has won another one since if Scripture is a fairy tale, then you won't take God seriously, especially the part where He discusses the fate of unredeemed man and you will die without knowing God which is what Satan wants above anything else.

Do you take a breath when you're typing?

Scripture is not made up of fables, but it is made up of many allegories, which are stories which illustrate an underlying truth.

The TRUTH is important, not the minutiae of the story.

You've burned up all kinds of synapses over the details of Adam and Eve and the fact is that my intepretation is just as good as yours so long as I'm talking about the fall of man.

And a woman can be "scripturally-educated" all she wants, but if she holds a position of authority over a man, in the church, she is sinning against God.

Baloney. If a woman is more scripturally-educated than a man then she "holds authority" over him in the area of scripture. And she's not sinning by manifesting her knowledge.

God's laughing at this thread, you know. He can't believe the precious bandwidth He has created is being burned up on trivial arguments.

Who ever said teaching a class is a "position of authority." I wonder if their are any women professors at the bible colleges?????? Gee, let me think about that. How silly.

No. I'd say physical or emotional abuse fits in there too.

So you are saying that Jesus erred when he said divorce was wrong? Or at best permissible only in the case of adultery?

I think you misunderstand my statement.
I'll know the qualifications of anyone I allow to teach me anything.

Does not equate with:

Anyone who automatically assumes they have something to teach me is a fool.

Perhaps your standards are a bit lower?

And leave the sarcasm to a professional, lighten up and appreciate a joke from time to time. My tagline might give you a clue.

Doesn't bother me at all. I had a wonderful female Sunday school teacher as a child. She did more to make me into a good Christian and to keep me engaged as a child and young adult than our minister ever did.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I brought this up on another post. They'll sit here and whine about women teaching a class (I have a lot of Baptist friends) but they don't require head coverings, long hair and skirts for the women. They pick and choose.

Thank GOD we are under the new covenant; otherwise, I'd be hardpressed to wear clothing that is never of two different materials (forbidden in Leviticus), and not to mention, that one week of the month when I'd be banished from the house. Yeah, right.

And none of that has anything at all to do with teaching Sunday Schoool which, as you well know, is extra-Biblical.

If you're going to be an absolutist on this business of God's dictates (as you interpret them), you've gotta' buy into all of them, and AVOID all those things not specifically required in the Bible ~ after all, if God had wanted you to do them He'd told you about it.

I see no scriptural prohibition in having women teach children. However, the prohibitions against having women teach men is quite clear, Paul even going on to state that "this is the defacto truth for all the churches of God". This is also a reason why the Catholic church will never have women priests.

Besides, when in history have you seen a denomination that has ordained women or given them authority in a church and then hasn't started a slippery slide into either a radical Charismatic (barking like dogs, name it claim it) or extreme liberal (gay marriage, etc) heresy?

Those Muslims attempt to impose their rules on others. And they use those teachings to radify and convince young men to commit terrorism. Also, the Muslims denegrate the women, while apparently this church assigns different groups different responsibilities. Note: I see nothing wrong with women teaching.

Darn, I guess I want my money back from those nuns.

LOL...the mental picture of a former parochial school student asking one of my Sister of Mercy grade school teachers for a refund. That would be a classic. They were a tough bunch...I bet they could still instill fear with their walkers.

The Holy Spirit never leads in contrary to His inspired Word the bible.

In several places in the New Testament (not to mention the choice of our Lord of 12 men as his Apostles) qualifications are given as to church leadership/teachers. In every place, for general church leadership (over men and women) it is very clear that these were to be men, period. Older women are instructed to teach younger women--but leaders and teachers of the whole church are to be men.

I don't care how good a teacher any particular woman is, or how "led by the Holy Spirit" they are, or how many they "win to the faith" by definition if they try to teach and have authority over men, they are sinning against God's written word, and God's clearly written plan of church leadership.

If Pentacostals and others want to violate scriptural teaching on this, that is their business, it is a free country--but please, do not try to claim the Holy Spirit led you in this.

I have very fond memories of some of those old birds. One thing was certain, discipline was strictly maintained.
