WASHINGTON, Aug. 21 President Bush seized today on Democratic calls for withdrawal from Iraq to make an election-year case that his political rivals did not properly understand the threats to the nation and would create a more dangerous world.
It was the most direct attack Mr. Bush has made yet against the Democrats from a White House lectern this election year, and it effectively marked the beginning of a more outright political season for the president and his aides as they work to help Republicans maintain control of Congress this fall.
The appearance marked an early, pre-Labor Day start to the official campaign season, but it comes as Mr. Bush and his party face the most daunting electoral challenge [blah, blah, blah]

Democrats believe its time for a new direction in Iraq, with responsible redeployment of U.S. forces from Iraq that begins this year.Murtha suggested that direction should be north to Okinawa.

I would rank the immediate threats to our national existence as follows:
1) The anti-American Socialist agenda foisted by Democrats, "the groups", the MSM, and other fools.
2) Uncontrolled immigration and lack of assimilation.
3) The public education system (government schools) and no education in US history and civics.
4) The courts and activist judiciary.
5) The MSM (again, for good measure).
6) Biological epidemics (soon to be here, especially owing to third-world diaspora and uncontrolled products).
7) Apathy.
8) Muslim infiltration.
9) Comet or asteroid impact.
10) Alien invasion (see also number 8).
Let me know if I missed any. :O)

That's true. Bush doesn't talk much to the nation. For some reason, this President doesn't see fit to questioning the credibilty of his domestic rivals in public. They're very thin-skinned, you see. They can be as callous, spiteful and subversive as far as it'll take them, but never held accountable for it. Those have been the rules in America for as long as I've been alive.
If Bush wants to make an impression, let him call on conservative democrats to take a firmer stance within their own party. That'll keep em busy for awhile.
Democrats are light as a feather and I'm sure this President knows them as well. But he must start asserting himself.

I wish he would say this: "The Islamofascists and their enablers, the Democrats, are the real threat to America!"

Bush has the power of the bully pulpit and national presence. Republican Congressman who makes statements usually get ignored. Thats like saying a quarterback gets more attention than a lineman. It still takes teams to win.

Liberal Reality He created AIDS, and didn't really defeat Communism:
He never imprisoned or tortured anyone, and is just a kind old grandfather who just wants healthcare for everyone:
People like this are not our enemy, because they make those nasty Jews and judgmental Christians nervous. Besides, they hate the West too:
The smartest woman who ever lived, who will save humanity and usher in worldwide Utopia someday:
Not a baby, not alive, cannot feel pain, and worth of destruction if any woman says so:
A terrible monster! A horrible human being who is the cause of all evil in the world. If he wasn't alive, there would be no terrorism by the Muslims, because.....well, because we say so! So there!

No..I disagree...I think they hate Western Judeo-Christian society and want to see it destroted....they want the USA destroyed... don't kid yourself that its about W.... Having shared a few barley pops with professional Democrats, I'd say that would be a correct assessment.

"The Republicans in Congress lost their testicles after the 1995 government shutdown."
Good point - that episode bears more discussion - I wasn't following it closely, alas, but I recall that Demagogues + lying MSM made it into a Republican-bashing affair and the Demagogues won out. Just imagine, a majority in Congress wanted to assert some fiscal discipline (last time we've seen any of that) and the Demagogues went crazy, making it seem that "eviiiil Republicans" were shutting down the government.
That was in the relative infancy of the worldwideweb, and maybe now things could turn out differently without the MSM monopoly, but the Republicans got burned, badly, and I think the "lesson" they learned was that they could get clobbered by the alliance of DNC and MSM talking points in any major showdown. It's time to teach the Demagogues that things really have changed, not to cower in craven servility to the MSM.
