And young girls who are raped, which happens every day in this country, should what? Be forced to have the baby? I don't think so. And neither does the president so I'm glad to say my position agrees with his.
Yes, I could see how it could prevent the need for some, possibly many abortions.
That's completely irrelevant. There are thousands of emergency rooms where a rape victim can get Plan B right now, today, without making it OTC.
Making it OTC makes it available to the statutory rapists to offer to their victims to entice them into sex. She says, "No! I don't want to get pregnant!" and he says "Don't worry, just take these two pills."
"And young girls who are raped, which happens every day in this country, should what? Be forced to have the baby?"
Peach I usually agree with you, but not on this.
Life is life. There should be no "reason" to kill an innocent life. That human resulting from rape is no less valuable a human life than yours.
That said; statistics have shown that .0001% of rapes result in conception. Nearly impossible.
Do you actually believe that it's better for the girl to take an active role and become a perpetrator of evil rather than simply work through the issues involved in having been a victim of evil; to promote more evil on top of evil?
And, how is it that you do not think that to bear the child would be to receive "beauty for ashes"; to have a blessing in place of a curse; to commit a deeply loving and personal act of redemption on behalf of an helpless and innocent one?
You are arguing that killing the victim's child is an appropriate course of action, here. How did the child become culpable to the point of deserving a death sentence? The child wasn't even in existence at the time, so how is it that you impute some blood-guilt for which it must die?
I have seven children; four living. I have known the heights of joy and the heart-wrenching depths of human sorrow. I know the value of human life, and I tell you that all the wealth of the nations cannot move the balance when set against the life of just ONE of my children.
I have two families that are close friends; one who endured the tragedy of rape, and the other who was blessed with being given the chance to adopt the beautiful life that was born out of that tragedy. Out of shame and humiliation came true beauty and great joy and blessing to everyone. Great adversity was overcome with great love.
I highly recommend a ground-up reassessment of your position; there is untold good that you have overlooked.
Do you take this position because you believe that life 'does not' begin at conception?
Because if you DO believe in the affirmative, that life 'does begin' at conception, then you place the 'right to individual freedom' over the 'right to life'.
There is a reason ouf founders placed them in the order of "...the right to LIFE, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness"
