At least 40 killed in an accident of train in Egypt

CAIRO - At least 40 people were killed Monday when two trains circulating on the same railway entered in collision to the north of Cairo, one learned from source of safety.

At least 40 bodies were recovered whereas a hundred people were wounded in the accident.

The two trains circulated on the same way in direction of the capital, one coming from Mansoura (130 km in the north of Cairo) and the other of Benha (50 km in the north of Cairo).

The collision took place on the level of Qalioub, with a score of km in the north of the capital, according to this source. The victims were transported in seven hospitals of the area.

May 1, 45 Egyptians had been wounded at the time of a collision between two trains in the governorship of Charquiya, in the north of Cairo. At the end of February, 20 people had been wounded also in a similar accident close to Alexandria (northern).

From AP:

Train crash in Egypt kills at least 12

CAIRO, Egypt - Two passenger trains collided in northern Egypt on Monday, killing at least 12 and injuring several others, police officials said.

The early morning incident occurred in the province of Qalyoub, just north of the capital Cairo, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media.

Four cars derailed and overturned, they said, requiring the closing of the line.

The incident was under investigation, they said.

Egypt has a history of serious train accidents, which are usually blamed on poorly maintained equipment. Many of those incidents occur in the Nile Delta, north of the capital.

In February, 20 people were injured when two trains collided at a Nile Delta station.
