Aren't primary dates set by the states, not the parties?

For once the Demos got something right. We do need to get some emphasis on states other than Iowa and New Hampshire.
They've been largely responsible for the string of left wing loonies that the Democrats have nominated in the last several national elections.

More evidence of the bullying tactics of the left. The will of the people be damned, the party line must be followed.

no offense, but how have the good people of Iowa been responsible for the nuts the dems trot in front of us? Don't forget, it was IA that put dean out of the race...;)

This is an opportunity for Hillary to distance herself from the Dean wing and take full control of the Democrat Party on the basis of "tradition".

Ah yes, the tolerance of the left is now on display for all to see. Likewise that commitment to upholding free speech. /sarc

Actually, this will help the candidate that has the most cash at the START of the primaries as they must campaign in multiple states at once, not just Iowa and New Hampshire.

Again, this plays right into Hillary's hands.

How does the rule apply if you campaign in Massachusetts before the NH primary? Most of southern NH can pick up Bay state TV stations.

If they are willing to turn on themselves, what makes the voters think that they will serve them instead of themselves?

"In 1977, to eliminate any possible future encroachment on the state's tradition of being first, the Legislature further amended the law setting the election date to read, "On the second Tuesday of March, immediately preceding the date on which any other state shall hold -a similar election, whichever is earlier..... By taking this action the traditional town meeting date and the presidential primary date were once again identical as they had been in 1916"

This should get interesting. NH's law has them always first.
