CORAL SPRINGS · A burly exotic guard dog, one of several that frightened residents of an upscale neighborhood in recent days, ferociously mauled and killed its owner Friday afternoon, apparently in sight of the woman's young daughter.
Police said they found the dog, a Presa Canario named Zino, in the backyard of a home in the 9000 block of the Northwest 39th Court in The Hills neighborhood. It was standing over the body of the mother of two.

Isn't that the same breed of dog that killed the woman in San Francisco a few years ago?

Court records show Willey has had several citations for owning a vicious dog, allowing a dog at large, and failing to have proper registration and vaccination papers. The citations, which resulted in fines totaling thousands of dollars, occurred in Tampa and dated to 2000. Speechless.

I'm suprised she even wanted to own one of these.
Not a very positive outcome for her.

I recall someone referring to this breed as a "pit bull on steroids."

The Presa Canario was originally bred for fighting and guarding
That explains it. Anyone who gets a fighting dog is getting a time bomb. I, for the life of me, will never, ever understand why people can accept that shepherding, swimming, pointing, and hunting can be part of a dog's genetic makeup but fighting isn't.
It does takes a stimulus (just like a person with alcoholic genes isn't tempted by alcoholic till he drinks it for the first time) but it is a disaster waiting to happen.

Horrible! I note that in the full article, the owner of the home has been convicted of several crimes. Another bad boy with a bad dog.
The article also says that the dogs had been running loose in the neighborhood at times. Too bad someone didn't have a shotgun loaded with 00.

Person probably never considered just how much danger she was exposing herself and the community to.

Court records show Rivero has several convictions from Miami-Dade County dating to 1986, including grand larceny and burglary. He was sentenced to five years' probation in 2003 after pleading no contest to a robbery charge.Landscaper? $800,000 house? Maybe her boyfriend engaged in some enterprises in addition to landscaping? Just a thought.
To: Fawn
This is the same breed that tore apart that poor woman in San Francisco a few years back.
I continue to be amazed at people who insist on owning vicious animals...what is the fascination?
