Sri Lanka's air force on Friday launched airstrikes on rebel positions in the north, an official said, and the government promised to send aid to the hundreds of thousands cut off there by the fighting... Hundreds of rebels and security forces have been killed in fighting in the Jaffna Peninsula since Aug. 11, when rebels made a major push to retake the Tamil-majority area... The United Nation's refugee agency said the closing of a key road to the north was preventing vital aid reaching the peninsula, where its 500,000 residents remain under a 22-hour curfew and food, water and other staples are running low. "We are sending 80 tons of aide to Jaffna. It will include food and medicines," said government spokesman, Keheliya Rambukwella.

Nope, the Sinhalese (majority and government side) are Buddhists and some Catholics, while the Tamils (the minority side and in rebellion) are Hindus with some Catholics as well.

Cute. This is a bit more realistic:

They also fly MiG 23, two or three types of MiL helicopters, some Antonov and Beech transports ... Certainly not USAF, but not atypical of other small nations.

They also fly MiG 23, Actually apart from a couple of MiG-23UB Conversion trainers, the MIG flown is the MiG-27 ground attack variant. (simpler intakes, stronger undercarriage, laser rangefinder nose instead of AI radar)
