Collins says threat is "real, continuing and cannot be ignored" [Alternative to Katherine Harris]

TAMPA, Fla. - Retired admiral and U.S. Senate candidate LeRoy Collins, Jr. called the recent planned terrorist attacks against U.S. bound airliners from Europe an ominous threat we must take seriously and not ignore. Collins' remarks followed exposure of the coordinated plot to take down several commercial aircraft departing the United Kingdom, and the arrest of 21 suspects in London.

"Americans cannot deny there are people in the world who despise our freedoms and beliefs, and there are those among us who want to kill innocent civilians to advance their cause. The threat is real. These people are still living in the seventh century. They are not civilized, and they will not negotiate in a rational way. They are dedicated terrorists and must be dealt with as such," Collins said.

"I support the administration and our government's efforts to ensure the traveling public remains safe. If given the privilege and honor to represent Florida in the United States Senate, I will apply my background in the United States military to ensure our country is safe. My number one priority will be to immediately enact legislation securing U.S. borders. Al-Qaeda knows our borders are the weak link in preventing further destruction by those who seek to do us harm. We cannot and should not wait until another fatal incident occurs before addressing this distressing national weakness, which is still with us five years following 9/11/01," Collins added.

LeRoy Collins, Jr. in brief: Collins is a fifth-generation Floridian from a family dedicated to public service. As a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, Collins served in the Navy and Navy Reserve (submarines) for 34 years, retiring as a two-star admiral. His civilian careers have been in the high-tech financial services and real estate industries and have spanned 36 years. He has been endorsed by former Attorney General and Secretary of State Jim Smith and former Comptroller Bob Milligan. He recently made news statewide when he asked Katherine Harris to drop out of the race.

You may be right about the primary, but he has a better chance in the general election.

You said: I think McBride has too much baggage. He's a trial lawyer. He does handle some immigration cases. I am not sure if he marched with the illegals, but he's not going to win with that baggage.

****************************************************** Last spring McBride marched with the 'Immigrants United for Freedom' which coordinates with A.N.S.W.E.R.; CODE PINK and oter leftist groups that are anti-war (on terror) and anti-Israel

More:

Sarasota Herald Tribune:

McBride admits walking under the Mexican Flag at these rallies and says 'he speaks for them'.

Excerpt:
McBride also tried to deflect questions about how he could take such a tough stance against illegal immigration when he was marching at immigration reform rallies this spring.

One woman in the audience showed the crowd pictures of McBride at a May rally in which he was holding an "Immigrants United for Freedom" sign and walking with American and Mexican flags behind him.

"I am an attorney," said McBride, who has a practice in downtown Orlando. "I did speak out on behalf of them."

If he really believed he had a chance, he would have entered the race months in advance instead of at the last minute.

The guy's a joke, period.

Why? There's a conservative Republican already in the race. She has a proven record already. I respect Collins' military service, but what has he done besides riding off his father's name?

Collin's ad is a bit deceptive.......

Regarding the ad's assertion that Jeb Bush said Harris can't win, the governor has never flatly said that, although in May, he said: "I just don't think she can win."

Jeb Bush will endorse Harris after she wins the primary and then will campaign for her......

It's like an Alice in Wonderland episode. These 3 candidates opposing Harris did so right at the filing deadline, and all of a sudden they think they have a chance at unseating Harris.

I mean, it's mind-boggling, how people will disregard a conservative Republican who's proven her mettle with a record in favor of a no-name with no experience.

Yep....FL politics have become 'mind-boggling'.

It's quite surprising there are so many 'useful Idiots' who actually believe the hit pieces the rabid liberal FL press crank out every day against Harris!

Those same articles against Bush would get 'Barf' Alerts.

I am more and more inclined to that view as well. Collins' radio ads are clear appeals to conservative GOP primary voters. Collins may also have appeal to old line Democrats based on his family history and to pro-government military types, an unusual bonus for a GOP statewide candidate in Florida.

He may be a joke, but so is his primary opposition.

Unfortunately, that is what we've got to work with.

Collins doesn't look very conservative on some key issues.....much more like a RINO

St. Pete Times:
Excerpt:

"He's a no-nonsense candidate who doesn't necessarily embrace Republican orthodoxy."

"He doesn't want to make abortion illegal, for instance, and he would relax the Cuba embargo, conditioned on human rights and property rights concessions. His platform includes starting a national internship program for state and federal agencies to encourage more public service."

And there's no mention of any opposition to amnesty for illegals on his website.

Remember Chris Ingram--Leroy Collins' campaign manager, and Harris' former campaign manager ?

Get this--the #1 testimonial on his business website is none other than Al Franken!

From NautiNurse: Remember Chris Ingram--Leroy Collins' campaign manager, and Harris' former campaign manager ?

Yep...I remember him very well....and his 'Brutus' behavior towards Harris after he began to work for Collins.

Now we learn that he's in thick with Al Frankin......that may explain a lot about his recent behavior.

Small world indeed! What a weasel!

Good find, NN !

As the truth is slowly surfacing about Cong. Harris' non-conservative, rag-tag group of primary opponents, the pickins' of the frenzied "anyone but Harris" out-of-state crowd are getting slimmer and slimmer, LOL.

I agree.....

We now know that Collins' new campaign manager Chris Ingram has a 'business endorsement' from Airhead Al Frankin....

We now know that McBride hangs out with the 'open borders' crowd....

And we all know that Harris is the true conservative!
