Stab maniac out shopping |

By JOHN COLES A CRAZED knifeman doing life for stabbing 17 women shoppers is being let out unsupervised to go SHOPPING. Woman-hater David Morgan, 43, was warned he may NEVER be freed over his terrifying rampage in a department store. But the psychiatric patient now spends up to four hours a day wandering among unsuspecting female shoppers in Stafford town centre. Morgan, serving TEN life sentences, is even allowed to go boozing.
|
On one trip he sported a T-shirt showing three scantily-clad women. The Sun watched as he:
through a 24-hour Asda supermarket packed with women shoppers.
a TK Maxx fashion megastore, also full of female staff and customers.
lager in the trendy Chicago Rock Cafe bar, where women were enjoying lunch.
Megastore ... Morgan browsed for fashions |
Morgan, who had schizophrenia, depression and a psychotic disorder, has a history of attacking women since 1988.
But a psychiatrist ruled he was not a danger two months before he ran amok with two knives at Rackhams in Birmingham in December 1994. Of 17 victims, 15 had their throats slashed.
A year later, while awaiting trial, he attacked a hospital nurse with a razor.
Days out ... the hospital where Morgan is held |
In 1996 he admitted ten charges of wounding.
Mr Justice Judge told him: You were an evil, brutal and remorseless force, inflicting pain and injury. You must be detained until you cease to be a risk. If that time never comes, so be it.
Morgan is at the Hatherton Centre, a semi-secure unit in St Georges Hospital, Stafford.
Bar ... Morgan drank beer here while out |
A recent patient warned last night: He told me, Im getting off lightly. They let me go where I please.
They think hes ok to be released but Im not so sure. He told me he was still scared of women. He is an unpredictable character.
People would be scared to death if they knew who he was.
A victim of the Rackhams horror said last night: Lets hope the authorities dont end up with blood on their hands over this.

Please don't alarm or inconvenience the inmates of the asylum as they pass amongst the citizenry (perhaps drunk). This is just sick.
Theodore Dalrymple was right on the money.
Inmates are running it. WE belong in the asylum for letting them loose.
Somewhere, somehow, I had gotten the impression that the primary purpose of Government is to protect the public that it serves.
I guess I am completely wrong.
Are British tabloids the same as American ones, in that they are made up? (The Sun is a British tabloid).
I haven't encountered a story from the Sun that is made up....they have the tabloid style and focus most of their attentions on idiotic and irrelevant celebrity gossip, but the occasional hard news items that they have reported on have appeared to be solid.
For the data on British tabloids, much appreciated.
And Matt Drudge frequently links to the Sun because they are oftnetimes first out with major breaking news items.
U.K. went soft in the outhouse decades ago ...
You have to remember this is the country who kept Tony Martin in prison LONGER because he was a menace to burglars....He was the farm guy who shot a burglar in HIS HOME,after he had been robbed 6 times before...
I'll bet he especially enjoys shopping at the cutlery stores.
I am British, and I certainly used to regard the SUN as no better than a comic.
I am getting more and more impressed by them simply because they appear to hire actual journalists.
Dukakis was my first thought too.
Wowsers! If I ever go off my rocker and start committing crimes like this, I hope I remember to do it in the UK. Their version of "hard time" is 4 hours a day sucking down beer and shopping. I'll take it!!
The UK's justice system is so messed up that there is no need to fabricate.
Forget public hangings. Those that did their best to abolish the death penalty probably did so to save their own necks.
In this case it's a pity that this woman stabber is not targetted by, let's say, "a random knife attack" himself.
Hey, it's hard, but sometimes you have to break the law to get justice. Getting time for shopping and drinking is a slap in the face of all victims and their families. The best thing the Brits could do is switch over to a system where magistrates (judges) are ELECTED. At least they can have a say in who is going to keep their society safe.
