Japan is a nation that once had a proud people with a strong warrior tradition.

There's this line from the novel Cryptonomicon. The setting is late in WWII in the Pacific Theater. Basically, MacArthur is watching a five-o'clock charlie attempting to bomb his location and the author notes that the five-o'clock charlie is by definition a bad pilot because all the good ones were at the bottom of the ocean now. The warrior tradition died at Hiroshima and Nakasaki.

Free citizens of advanced western democracies are increasingly the world’s wrinkliest teenagers: the state makes the grown-up decisions and we spend our pocket money on our record collection.

Hilaire Belloc, incidentally, foresaw this very clearly in his book The Servile State in 1912 – before teenagers or record collections had been invented.

If you add Belloc and Chesterton to Krauthammer et al., then you're getting somewhere.

Try reading The Servile State--it predicted Socialism and the Welfare State as the inevitable outcome of the conflict of Communism and Capitalism--not only before the Russian Revolution in 1917, but before World War ONE !

The guy is brilliant. In 10 or 20 years this message will be mainstream thought. Right now, he's the only one proclaiming it.

Not really. The KKK and Aryan Nation have been saying it for decades. "Western Civilization" and "demographic crash" = White People. "Islam" and "loss of freedom" and "civilizational change" = Brown People. Note however that I am not saying that either Steyn or the KKK is wrong. The Brown People (Islamic, Mexican or African) KNOW they are replacing White People, are highly motivated in the pursuit and consider it a VERY GOOD thing for the world. They maintain their separate cultural identity precisely as a tool to displace White People, not because of a belief in their culture other than Brown Good, White Bad. White People are no longer allowed to believe the reverse or criticize Brown racist culture, breeding and migration.

Those were pretty much the same category of folks. All the brave people signed up at the start. By the end of the war, the Japanese were drafting pretty much anyone who could stand up.

The warning signs were there is 1905. We are tracking what happened at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth century very closely. I cannot even imagine what our world may be like by the year 2018. Somehow worrying about Social Security funding is the least of my fears.

Actually a lot of points here are the same as those that caused such a furor when Pat Buchanan released his Death of the West book.
