EL CAJON
A fire ripped through an Islamic center early Thursday morning, causing $2 million in damages before it was put out, officials said.
The three-alarm fire at the Kurdish Community Islamic Center was reported just after 2 a.m. and burned for more than an hour before firefighters from 15 different crews extinguished it, said Monica Zech, a spokeswoman for the El Cajon Fire Department.
"When they got here, there was heavy smoke coming from the building and then the fire broke through the roof and flames were shooting through the roof," Zech said. "It's pretty much a total loss."
The cause of the fire in this east San Diego suburb was unknown. Investigators were unable to search for clues inside the building because it was unstable, Zech said. Instead, they used fire truck ladders to get an aerial view of the inside of the 800,000-square-foot community center, she said.
Arson investigators from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the FBI were on the scene.
The FBI would become involved if it was determined that the fire was a hate crime, Zech said.
Members of the community center arrived early Thursday for morning prayer, only to find the center in ashes. Zech said the center's owner was out of town.
Burn, baby, burn!
I would never encourage arsonists but in this case.....
Sob!Sob!
I am guessing that the firefighters were not in a particular hurry to put this one out.
ROFLMFAO!!!!!
That's nice to hear. I wish them well, they have suffered a great deal between the Turks and Saddam.
"That attitude is reducing ourselves to the same level as radical Muslims."
Nope, that attitude is survival instinct kicking in. They are the enemy in our midst.
Well, if it were the Kurdish center then this is bad news. Look to the Shia and Sunnis for the culprits. If you don't believe exactly as they do, they saw your head off as being "Allah's" will. No doubt "Allah" ordered up this fire.
And guess where the insurance money will go. These folks are going "deep underground".
I concur.
That is behavior more appropriate to DU.
Fuzzy moral math:
Burning down empty buildings == Raping, killing, and torturing
Umm...sure.
This building isn't that far from where I live and I've driven past it many times. It always struck me as an odd place as the whole property was surrounded by chain link fencing and I very rarely saw any cars or people at this center.
I really don't like going down into El Cajon shopping as it creeps me out being in a store with the heavily veiled women in black. I'll apologize right off the bat for that but I'm sorry, it creeps me out and pi$$es me off.
It will be interesting to hear more news on this.
What? And ruin the image of FR as full of nutz and extremists?
I've never been more disgusted by a thread than by this one; I'm surprised the moderators are allowing it. It seems inconsistent with the "no violence" rule.
Neither of the sources I posted articles from chose to get that explicit as to the fact it was Kurdish.
hmmmm...
Were there things in the building there which caused such a fire?
LOL! Just what I was going to say!
