wftv ^ | August 15, 2006

A study conducted by Men's Health magazine has found that Orlando, Fla., ranks No. 1 on a list of the angriest cities in the nation.

"Orlando has never been a strategic military target, and yet the folks there are furious," the magazine said.

The magazine looked at the percentage of men with high blood pressure, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and FBI rates for aggravated assaults, as well as workplace deaths from assaults and other violence.

Those numbers were compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Traffic congestion data were also a factor.

Orlando was joined in the top 10 by three other Florida cities -- St. Petersburg, Miami and Jacksonville.

Top 10 Angriest Cities

1. Orlando, Fla.
2. St. Petersburg, Fla.
3. Detroit
4. Baltimore
5. Nashville, Tenn.
6. Wilmington, Del.
7. Miami
8. Memphis, Tenn.
9. Jacksonville, Fla.
10. St. Louis

I prefer "Dammitol".

As I recall, it doesn't really calm you down, it just makes you enjoy feeling tense.

Maybe it's the Orange Juice. However, I wonder if the age demographics may have a function in the results. Many elderly retire in the warm climate of Florida.

I could swear Washington DC is # 1 whenever congress is in session.

How did they like anger to hypertension? I live outside of Wichita KS (#20). There is not a whole lot to get angry over in Wichita small town takes 15 minutes to get from one side to the other population of 380,000 people. Can the hypertension be linked to living beyond ones means and being stressed out by their jobs?

I have a hard time to believe that Raleigh and Durham, NC are angrier than Oakland.

Men's Fitness 10 Fattest Cities, 2006 1. Chicago
2. Las Vegas
3. Los Angeles
4. Dallas
5. Houston
6. Memphis, Tenn.
7. Long Beach, Calif.
8. El Paso, Texas
9. Kansas City, Mo.
10. Mesa, Ariz.

I wondered why Chicago wasn't in the top 10 angriest cities (#11), but the #1 'fattest city' title explains that. Fat folks are jolly, so the jollies counteract the angries a bit. Not much, but enough to knock them out of the top 10.

I think we can learn more about the writer/compiler of these statistics, than the cities themselves. It looks to me as though he/she has a very pronounced southern bias, and at least one bad experience in Detroit.

I used to go to Detroit / Ann Arbor all the time, once I saw a dude at the Hash Bash with a t-shirt that said "Welcome to Detroit - Try Not To Get Shot", I saw a similar one in Rochester NY that said "Thanks for visiting Rochester NY - Sorry We Missed Ya!" and had a handgun on it. hahahahaha!

I watched the documentary for one of Detroit's greatest bands, the MC5. One part in particular comes to mind, when singer Rob Tyner was talking about how they used to physically and verbally assault English band Cream backstage at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit. When confronted by Russ Gibb (Dearborn radio DJ and owner of the Grande) Tyner commented "Hey, this is Detroit, Cream is lucky they didn't get shot!"

The 100 angriest cities in the U.S., according to Men's Health magazine, which reviewed data such as hypertension rates and crime statistics.

This is really stupid.

"So much for easy southern livin' ..... "

Nashville's number 5 only because of all the liberal carpetbaggers that have moved there. That would p*ss anyone off.
