100 Angriest Cities In U.S.
wftv ^ | August 15, 2006

A study conducted by Men's Health magazine has found that Orlando, Fla., ranks No. 1 on a list of the angriest cities in the nation.

"Orlando has never been a strategic military target, and yet the folks there are furious," the magazine said.

The magazine looked at the percentage of men with high blood pressure, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and FBI rates for aggravated assaults, as well as workplace deaths from assaults and other violence.

Those numbers were compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Traffic congestion data were also a factor.

Orlando was joined in the top 10 by three other Florida cities -- St. Petersburg, Miami and Jacksonville.

Top 10 Angriest Cities

1. Orlando, Fla.
2. St. Petersburg, Fla.
3. Detroit
4. Baltimore
5. Nashville, Tenn.
6. Wilmington, Del.
7. Miami
8. Memphis, Tenn.
9. Jacksonville, Fla.
10. St. Louis

I wonder how these cities lay in the Gore/Bush election map?

OK, I'll start. Pittsburgh, No. 90, went for Gore.

You'll find that pretty much every "city" went for Gore / Kerry . Very few areas outside of heaviliy populated cities did.

Don't you know that Florida is not in the south. It's the home of the wrinkled Yankee.

What does anger and high blood pressure have to do with each other?

The comment was meant more as tongue-in-cheek. To see if it got any responses. I think the real reason more people are angry is (1) stress of being in a large city (2) unreasonable expectations of life (from television) (3) an instant gratification mindset (also from television)

Jacksonville is hardly a haven for Yankees. Other Southern cities like Memphis, Nashville, and Jackson, Mississippi, are not havens for transplants, yet they are ranked in the top 20. My guess is that there is a high correlation between the level of anger and the size of the African-American population. The bottom 10 cities (Colorado Springs, Colo., El Paso, Texas, Sioux Falls, S.D., Des Moines, Iowa, Burlington, Vt., Portland, Or., Corpus Christi, Texas, Fargo, N.D., Bangor, Maine, and Manchester, N.H.) are predominantly white or Hispanic, with minimal black populations.

I'm writing a (country) song about a recent trip to Florida - about how you have to "drive north to head south".

I'm surprised Billings, MT scored rather high on the list (#74).

I'll have to disagree. It has nothing to do with race, and more to do with southern culture, i.e. a propensity to love fried foods . I take you back to one of the main criteria: high blood pressure.

NOBODY does a good fish fry like we do here in TN.

Why isn't Detroit #1-10?

Because nobody actually lives in Detroit. It actually gains population during working hours, then anyone that can goes home.

I'm surprised it's as low as #3.

A talking magazine!!! Excellent for Orlandoans. Now maybe fewer New Yorkers will move here. Don't forget about the Alligators that are as thick as an immam's accent!

Orlando simply has too many transplants from Brooklyn, Jersey, Michigan and other countries.

Dallas is angrier than Houston ping.

(Must be because the Cowboys suck...)

{ducking and running...}

You Texans fans are just jealous.

(not ducking and running because Tom Landry taught me better than that...)
