Webb's campaign sent an email on this issue:

8/14/06

Dear Friend,

Watch George Allen's Femeaning Comments for Yourself

Politics is a contact sport. We all know that. But on Friday, George Allen made some comments in a campaign speech that were, in a word, repugnant.

S.R. Sidarth, a volunteer with our campaign of Indian descent, has been following George Allen with a camera. During an event in Breaks, Allen singled our volunteer out:

"This fellow here over here with the yellow shirt, Macaca, or whatever his name is. He's with my opponent. He's following us around everywhere. And it's just great. We're going to places all over Virginia, and he's having it on film and its great to have you here and you show it to your opponent because he's never been there and probably will never come."

"…Lets give a welcome to Macaca, here. Welcome to America and the real world of Virginia."

Please click here to watch the video.

We would like Senator Allen to tell us exactly what he means by his comments. Sidarth was born in Fairfax. What does he mean, “Welcome to America?” And by Macaca, is George Allen calling Sidarth a species of monkey in the Eastern Hemisphere?

Sidarth has a name. George Allen’s efforts to demean him, to minimize him as a person should not be tolerated.

We invite you to watch the video for yourself.

Sincerely,

Jessica Vanden Berg
Campaign Manager
Webb for Senate

There is a passage from that book that I will post here later on (from home) that is so in conflict with the Dem party, I'd be shocked if Sen Allen doesn't use it to set Webb up in a flip-flop trap. Maybe I should email it? ;-)

That being said, the Scots-Irish Webb is speaking of throughout the earlier parts of the book would be loath to support either the Dems or Republicans. They would view them both as elitist.

And his campaign worker in this story would have been beat up and run outta town for being such a baby. I mean, if he was that upset, why didn't he say something then? So much for standing up for oneself.

When will the Washington Compost say something, anything about Sen. Byrd's "white-n" comment?

And what if Allen thought they was his name?

A volunteer of Indian descent working for Democrat Jim Webb's U.S. Senate campaign said Monday he felt insulted when Sen. George Allen called him a name that sounded like "Macaca" during a rally in western Virginia.

Good grief! Does this person have anything better to do with his life that be insulted?

Senator Allen is no President Bush. Everyday that gets closer to 2008, I wish we could have him for a third term. President Bush would never have made this kind of error whether Senator Allen meant it or not. Why do candidates give ammo to the opposition. He could have not said anything and went with the War on Terror which is how he will win the election, not introduce somebody from the opposition party. Senator Allen was just hoping the crowd would boo him and it back fired. President Bush save us please!!!!!!

Actually, the word makaka has several meanings in the Polynesian language. The word "stiff" would be an appropriate meaning. Also, for you plant lovers, The Makaka plant is a species of the Maidenhair plant: Adiantum aethiopicum. Once again, Sen. George Allen nails it: this person is indeed a "plant."

There are other uses of the word makaka. However I cannot get any translations. Here is some uses of this word in Filipino sentances: "Kung yan ang gusto nila, di buhay nila yon, at sila lang ang makaka desisyon, diba?"

"May makakapigil ba sa akin upang gawin yun? makaka-apekto ba iyon sa relihiyon ko? sa mata ng lipunan OO bawal gawin yun. pero ako, sa sarili ko, ako lang ang makaka-alam at makaka-husga sa sarili kong pananampalataya sa Diyos."

Allen is going to mess up constantly from now to election day. He had the good fortune of facing corrupt womanizer Chuck Robb in 2000, who any reasonably sane person could've beaten (that's why Oliver North couldn't do it). Webb has been working on getting the rural vote a la Warner and Allen shouldn't be handing his opponent softballs like this.
