How many cease-fires have there been in the Middle East or is the number too large to remember? Over the past half century, there must have been more cease-fires in the Middle East than in the rest of the world combined.
What will this latest cease-fire do? It will give Hezbollah a breather from Israeli retaliation and allow them time to get new shipments of military equipment from Iran, rebuild their military infrastructure and prepare for the next round of attacks on Israel.
Why do these phony cease-fire scenarios keep getting repeated? Because there are too many people, including many in the media, who take the corrupt windbags at the U.N. seriously so our political leaders have to act as if they take the U.N. seriously as well.
This is a costly charade. Among its costs are human lives. U.N. cease-fires are the ultimate in feel-good decisions made by people who pay no price for the repercussions.

Peace is the answer and always has been the answer. The vast majority of people who don't realize that have never actually fought in a war.
Translaltion...
Death is the ultimate peace. Death eliminates all suffering. Death is the answer ... it does indeed bring peace.
Peace can only be an answer if all parties want it....The alternatives are to succeed with overwhelming power and destruction, to fail and endure the resulting subjugation, or tolerate the constant wars of attrition that result from a ever-expanding ceasefires.
War, victory, and unconditional surrender (assuming there is anyont left to surrender) is the process.
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse."
John Stuart Mill
New Hampshire is considered to be a small state but it is larger than Israel. So are 45 other states. Lake Erie is larger than Israel and Lake Michigan more than twice as large.
When people talk about the prospect of "skirmishes" going on for years, etc., etc. (which is obviously what the stupid UN foresees with its toothless resolutions and security forces), they fail to realize how vulnerable Israel is and how impossible it will be for it to put up with a series of mini-wars every few months.
In other words, this situation can't go on. It's got to be resolved, and soon, and the only way to do it is going to be through a full-scale war.
That said, I don't think all the ME powers really want a war, and I think even those that are supplying the Hezzies would probably back down if it was clear that the "skirmishes" model was over and it was now going to be a real war. That is, if this happens now. If they have time to develop or buy nuclear or other more advanced weapons, things are going to get a lot worse and do so a lot more rapidly and with far greater worldwide impact.
I believe this is way, way too generous. At a certain point one can no longer ascribe the pressure for such ceasefires to a wish for peace. That explanation loses all credibility by the third ceasefire.
