On July 8, insurgents in the North Caucasus region of Dagestan simultaneously attacked two senior local officials. Early in the morning a roadside bomb killed Bitar Bitarov, prosecutor for the town of Buinaksk, as he was driven to his office. After the blast, Bitarovs car was also attacked by gunfire, and two of his bodyguards were also injured (Regnum.ru, July 8).
Adilgirei Magomedtagirov, the Dagestani interior minister, immediately rushed to the scene, as is his habit whenever a rebel attack occurs in the region. It usually takes 30 minutes to drive from Makhachkala, the Dagestan capital, to Buinaksk, but since the highway from the capital to Buinaksk is currently under repair, he used the only available route, which goes through Targi village on the outskirts of Makhachkala. When Magomedtagirovs motorcade approached a bridge near Targi, a massive explosion -- the equivalent of 150 kilograms of dynamite -- rocked the area. The car carrying the minister managed to avoid the explosion site, but a huge crater created by the blast blocked the road. Two police cars from the ministers convoy were separated from Magomedtagirovs car, which continued on toward Buinaksk until it was stopped by two more explosions near the bridge. The motorcade was subsequently ambushed, and two police cars riddled with bullets. According to the Regnum news agency, two members of the special-task police unit escorting the minister were killed by the blast and ambush, and four were wounded.

Global Jihad/Russia PING !
G-d forbid anyone call them Muslim terrorists...
At least Basayev is burning in hell right now. I still can't understand why the Ruskies continue to prop up Iran when they are probably actively involved in supporting the Chechens and other muslim fanatics.
The U.S. has emboldened Islamic Terrorist again, this time by supporting a ceasefire that allows Hezzbolah troops to join the Lebanese Army and moslem troops from Turkey and Malaysia to "protect" Israel.
It's a Summer of Fun for the Religion of Peace!
What the hell? Are you serious?
"Iran is composed of Shia Muslims, whereas the Chechens are Sunni. The two groups are very different, and do not get along."
As far as Infidels are (or rather should be) concerned, Sunnis or Shias (as well as Sufis or Wahhabis) all dream of the Global Islamic Caliphate under Sharia law.
Al-Qaida statement (Sunni group) in support of Hezbollah (Shia group) in its war with Israel is a perfect example that Sunni or Shia Jihadists can get over their differences to wage the war on Infidels. Infidels can use Sunni-Shia rivalries to their advantage, but until Infidels recognize that there is a threat from the Global Jihadi Islam rather than see Israel-Arab wars, Russian-Chechen/N. Caucasus wars or any other wars or conflicts where Muslims are involved in completely different light, it will be Sunni or Shia (or any other sort) of Islamists who will take advantage of Infidels.
Actually, Gary, I was referring to Al-Qaida statement by Al-Zawahiri in support of Hezbollah--not Syria.
As for Syria being secular--it's also open to question whom to count as secular. They are certainly not like Taleban, but their leadership clearly is aligned with Islamic Terrorist. That's what matters most.
Whenever I hear these ghastly stories about Islamic culture, I'm reminded of the family in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. What we as Americans put in our horror movies as inconceivable, actually takes place as normal behavior in a lot of places in the world.
Agreed, but if needed, they could certainly join hands against Infidels, so it's impossible to ignore this.
Do you have any links to sites I can read about this stuff?
