President Bush Live from the State Department
Iran took hostages, and we did nothing. Iran is the largest sponsor of terrorism, building nukes, and created this mess in lebanon and we still do nothing, and even tell our biggest ally in the region to not defend itself. Iran controls a lot of cards, and still has agents like muqtada al-sadr running around iraq. We refuse to do anything about it. Its like we allow iran to mingle into things because we are affraid if we piss them off, and that ahmindinjad speaks oil prices go up and there goes the next election.
time to face the facts.
I understand your point, DoughtyOne. I do not believe that Hezbollah will disarm either. One has to ask if it is even realistic to believe that they, or any other terrorist organization can be totally disarmed. Fighting terrorists simply cannot be compared to fighting a conventional war.
Other than bombing the smithereens out of Lebanon and basically wiping it out, how could Israel ever have completely disarmed Hezbollah? Hezbollah has fighters elsewhere, and there will more than likely always be more Islamic extremists who are willing to take the place of those we kill.
I don't know exactly how much damage Israel has inflicted on Hezbollah's ability to attack them again. Perhaps there is a report about that somewhere. It'd be interesting to know.
IMO, if Hezbollah does NOT return Israel's soldiers, and Lebanon, with UN assistance, cannot stop Hezbollah from again gaining a foothold in Lebanon.....well, then all bets are off the table, and I doubt Israel will show as much restrait next time.
Sounds good.

Use your browser's "Find" command to search for words "disarm" and "weapon".
Thanks for the response. I understand your position, and your thoughts on this. I agree with parts of it.
I would urge you to remember, that next time the dynamics will play out just the same. Israel will still be the bad guy and everyone will demand it stop.
There's no time like the present IMO.
Time will tell. In the meantime, I pray for Israel and that those in charge of their safety know what they're doing. There are many people involved in the decision making and since I'm not an expert I'll try to keep the faith in those who are.
Can you explain this conundrum, yellow?
Thank you for your comments too, DoughtyOne. I understand where you're coming too. I fear Israel will always be considered the "bad guy" in many parts of the world by those who are either prejudiced or simply ignorant and/or uninformed. I wanted Israel to do as much damage as they could possibly do to Hezbollah before agreeing to a ceasefire. At the same time, when Hezbollah said they would agree to the UN Resolution, I felt that Hezbollah thought Israel would NOT agree to it and that would allow "Hez" to use that as a propaganda tool against Israel. That's why I think it's possible that Israel called Hez's bluff and agreed to something Hez never thought they'd agree to. I sure hope there's more to this than meets the eye.
I don't think this situation is anywhere near over yet. Prayers for Israel. :)
BTW, I LOVE your new tagline! ROTFLOL!
Thank you Chena. We share that concern for Israel. I appreciate the comments.
You know, I've scrolled through this whole thread, and I've not seen you address this ridiculous statement adequately.
In the first place, unless you are completely uneducated, you know that the President has NEVER said that people quit being terrorists when they are given freedom, so either you are ignorant, or you deliberately mischaracterized the President. If you even have one eye partly open, you have heard him speak clearly about eradicating terrorism, so that democracy can thrive.
Secondly, I am curious, assuming you are really a conservative (which is in great doubt, to tell the truth), as to why you are opposed to the idea of planting freedom in the Middle East.
Are you opposed to democracy as a form of government, or are you just an elitist who doesn't believe that people of other ethnicities are capable of achieving democracy?
We do indeed. Thanks for chatting with me. :) chena
My pleasure.
So the bottom line is we have had a major speech by the Prime Minister of Israel and the President of the United States and neither of them mentioned a thing about disarming Hezbollah.
There is a simple Occam's Razor explanation for why they didn't: They would be embarrassed to admit there are no plans for Israel, France, the UN, Lebanon, the United States of America or even Jack Bauer to disarm Hezbollah. We have written another pretty document that says nice things but we actually have no plans to implement it.
This is a sad day for Israel and the United States.
The President: "The message of this administration is clear: America will stay on the offense against al Qaeda. Iran must stop its support for terror. And the leaders of these armed groups must make a choice: If they want to participate in the political life of their countries, they must disarm. Elected leaders cannot have one foot in the camp of democracy and one foot in the camp of terror."
Ohio, the whole speech is on the WH site now, if that's any help.
When you make a false statement like this, do you assume that no one else can read?
How exactly did you think you would get away with this accusation of the President on a forum such as this?
I really want to know.
Strong speech, IMO.
