The last week has been filled with interminable meetings and rapid-fire press statements about any number of equally stupid cease-fire proposals and proposals for peace-keeping troops of one kind or another. They all have something else in common. They are all irrelevant.
Most observers agree that by standing up against Israel creditably, Hezbollah has already won the admiration of the whole Muslim world and greatly increased the power of its sponsors in Syria and Iran. Some kind of face-saving "cease-fire" will do nothing to sully what is being seen as this unprecedented military victory against the once-invincible Israeli military.
But who will win the peace? ....(snip)
A country that had a Christian majority right through the 1930s, memorialized even today in a silly French Vichy-era constitution with Christian rights to certain political office, is now more than 70 percent Muslim. Two-thirds of these Muslims are now Shi'ite...(snip)

No, it's the Washington Post that is irrelevant. Israel won the war with 530+ dead Hezbullah. Claims to the contrary are to be expected from the Muslim world which still doesn't acknowledge losing any war to Israel.
Israel lost.
And continue to lose.
Today's threatened response to future katyusha attacks on Israel?
Bomb missile platforms? No.
Occupy areas from where the missiles came? No.
Any action threatened against Hezb. military targets? No.
Bomb Beirut? Yes.
Israel will continue to lose it appears.
Only the "Prince of Peace" will bring true peace. For now it is... piece by piece.
Danny, any conclusion other than total destruction of the Bakaa Valley is not a victory for Israel, in my opinion. The IDF fought brilliantly and could get the job done if allowed.
And you think that just because Israel said they would hold Beirut reponsible, that all of these other actions are ruled out? Israel doesn't have to threaten bombing and occupying missle launch sites. They are implied, because Israel already has a record of doing that.
Israel won this battle. Hezbullah lost 530+ terrorist fighters. And the danger with the MSM propigating the Muslim propaganda, is that Muslims will begin to believe thier own propaganda, and be more willing to engage Israel in the future.
The idea that this can be viewed as a Hezbullah victory needs to be shouted down. So that Muslims see this as a loss both in terms of life, and in terms of world opinion.
530+ Dead Hezbullah is a victory. If Israel completed a total destruction of the Bakaa Valley, the same voices would be saying that Hezbullah won because there are still Hezbullah in other places in Lebanon and in Syria and in Iran. And the same voices would be on here, saying that because Israel stopped before Syria was destroyed Israel must have lost.
And all it does is encourage the Muslims to think that maybe they really did win, and it's worth doing again.
It time the usual screamer learn the fundamental difference between a Counter Insurgency operation and Total War.Israel is not going to be able to wage a campaign of genocide against Hizzbollah. Their own public would not stand for it much less the world. That what I hear the Always Whining crowd complaining about. They keep confusing Counter Insurgency with Total War.
The standards of victory in Total War are utterly different. You conquer the foe's geographic base and dictate peace terms. Terrorists have no geographic base to conquer. You have to defeat their ideology. To do that you have to provide it's adherents with an alternative ideological vision. Either that or kill them all, women, children, old people. All. Somehow I doubt the same people who still weep about Dresden 61 years later are going to continence a war of extermination in Southern Lebanon.
This agreement is an attempt to destroy Hizzbollahs political base. Will it work? I don't know. But neither do any of the various Talking Heads screaming about the Cease Fire know it will NOT work either. We are forced to wait and see.
i blame the US for giving hezbollah a victory. Our PC liberal minded politicians forced israel into defeat. PERIOD.
Hezbollah didn't win a victory.Hezbollah didn't beat the Israelies anywhere but as usual world opinion instead of supporting Israel in this conflict came to the aid of Hezbollah.Hezbollah is NOT an army nor are they officially representing any country, they are TERRORISTS and if the Lebanese people want to tie their wagon to these scumbags let the chips fall where they may !!!
