Inside Scoop on Islamic Cell Phone Buyers Who Planned to Blow Up Mackinac Bridge
Debbie Schlussel.com ^ | August 13, 2006 | Debbie Schlussel

Posted on 08/14/2006 5:55:09 AM PDT by goldstategop

By now, you've probably read the news that the three Palestinians caught in Caro, Michigan with 1,000 TracFone cellphones are involved in a plot to blow up Michigan's Mackinac Bridge (it connects both Michigan peninsulas). Mackinac Bridge site here.

But here's what you didn't read:

Sources tell DebbieSchlussel.com that the men are from Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the group that works in concert with HAMAS in performing homicide bombings in Israel. The group once even considered merging with HAMAS, at the time that it was headed by University of South Florida professor Sami Al-Arian, a founder of the group. Maybe now sleepy Americans will awaken to note that Palestinian terrorism is not just Israel's problem. It's America's.

Sources say the plot was uncovered because law enforcement personnel observed two or more other men videotaping the Mackinac Bridge.

Mackinac Bridge (Peninsulas Bridge, Michigan)

Sources also say that it is very unlikely the men could have succeeded in blowing up the Mackinac Bridge--even with the chips from 1,000 phones for 1,000 bombs--as it is several miles long (it's the world's third longest suspension bridge). At a total length of 26,372 feet, the steel structure can support 38,486 tons of weight and is very, very strong and fortified. The sources say that, likely, the plan would have succeeded in bombing cars driving on the bridge, but not bringing the structure down

I said they could have posed as JOURNALISTS to set off bombs via cell phones.....they assassinated that Iraqi leader by posing as Journalists and a cameraman.....so it's NOT impossible.

The School buses in the photo are used to ferry people back across the bridge. They're another potential problem.

We will hear this repeatedly from liberals and other idiots, as if it were relevant to culpability.

Had the first World Trade Center bombing actually succeeded, no doubt the Clintonites would have taken the threat of islamic terrorism more seriously.

The Dallas Morning News had an article about them in the Metro section yesterday, I'm looking for it online now...

In the meantime, from today's DMN - looks like they showed up on local LE radar screen in May -

Some or all of the three Dallas-area residents arrested in Michigan last week on terrorism-related charges also had made "unusual purchases" of prepaid cellphones in Mesquite earlier this year, officials said Sunday.

In May, a Wal-Mart employee grew suspicious when several men made the unusual phone purchase. That information was given to Mesquite police, who reviewed it and then passed it along to federal authorities, said Mesquite police Lt. Shannon Greenhaw.

They sure are.

I believe you are referring to the assasination of that Afghani tribal leader the day before September 11. Those were the guys who posed as journalists.

Of course, a lot of journalists are poseurs anyway, but that's beside the point.

Here's the article from yesterday, didn't see anything re: how long they've been here, just that they are Palestinian. Oh, and that one of them is a registered sex offendor in Texas:

3 arrested in Michigan; family, friends deny terror ties

Do not completely write off the possibility of taking out the bridge. Certainly a typical IED or truck bomb would not destroy the bridge but the terrorists are able to think along big lines.

Giant sausage rolls of explosives places in the right place, blown, reapplied, and blown again could eat through nearly anything. The FMLN terrorists in El Salvador took out both main suspension bridges in that country. Of course the bridges were much smaller but they were destroyed with modest charges applied to just the right places.

Even terrorists who cheated their way through sophomore courses can still read an explosive charge chart.

I think bringing down a suspension bridge would be far easier than other types of bridges.
I started to post how but thought better of it.

Anyhow, it would be easy.

From that article: The men then sell the phones to a wholesaler in Dallas, on Harry Hines Boulevard, for about $40. He in turn ships them overseas

I'll bet terrorists can't get their hands on enough of these anonymous, hard to trace prepaid phones. Useful both for communicating with each other and as detonators. For some reason it must be easier to make cash-only, anonymous purchases of large quantities of these types of phones in the US than in Europe or the Middle East.

Exactly. I bet there were people that would've said nobody could take down the Twin Towers with a plane either!

Good, let's go back to sleep now.

".....Bridge--even with the chips from 1,000 phones for 1,000 bombs--as it is several miles long

Oh yeah, and it can withstand the extra 1000 "#" of weight from those extra 1000 "#" keys on the phones....right?

Very hard to figure out how they could have feigned a disabled car mid-span and...never mind. Ugh. Painful reasoning in this article, IMO.

Just how long would it take to dial 1,000 cell phones - 1-800-blowup? :-)

Their liquid bottle plot would also be devasating if carried out during the bridge walk.

Me on Sirius Howard 101: Hosting a Terrorism Show, Monday Night

By Debbie Schlussel

For those of you who subscribe to Sirius Satellite Radio, I will be hosting a 4-hour show, Monday Night, on Howard 101, from 8:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m. Eastern.

We'll be discussing terrorism, the terror plot, Dearbornistan Boys with cellphones, Hezbollah, Al-Qaeda, "World Trade Center," etc.

It's not a regular show, but a special one-time event (I'm in subbing for a sports show). Check it out. And, please, call in with questions.

http://www.debbieschlussel.com/archives/2006/08/me_on_sirius_ho.html

Good luck to Debbie on her "special" Monday, August 14, on Sirius 101. I believe the number is 1-888-783-7610 (unless Debbie says differently). That is the number most H101 shows use. Scott Ferrall is on vacation or something. She will definately need to be 'Freeped.' Stern fans may try to block the lines.
