LONDON - The U.S. publishing company Ignatius Press has refused to sell any works by Welsh singer Charlotte Church after she called German-born Pope Benedict XVI a Nazi and mocked the Catholic Church.
The directors of Ignatius Press said they were offended when the Welsh singer mocked the Catholic Church in the pilot of a proposed eight-part television chat show.
Church, dubbed the "Voice of an Angel" before she turned her talents to popular music, also dressed up as a nun and pretended to hallucinate while eating "communion" wafers imprinted with smiling faces signifying the drug Ecstasy.
She smashed open a statue of the Virgin Mary to reveal a can of hard cider inside, said she worshipped "St. Fortified Wine," and stuck chewing gum on a statue of the child Jesus.
Ignatius Press announced that Church's products have been withdrawn from its Web site and catalogue.
"It is with regret that we do this," the company said in a statement to its customers on its Web site, www.ignatius.com.
"Miss Church possesses a great gift from God, and in the past she has used her talent often to offer praise and glory to Our Lord," the statement said.
"We cannot stand by a young woman who uses her stature in the media to mock the Eucharist, slander the Holy Father, and denigrate the vows of religious women," it continued.
"Therefore, our catalogues and Web site will immediately withdraw all compact discs, cassette tapes, DVDs and VHS tapes that feature Miss Church. Please join us in praying for this troubled young woman," the statement added.
Church declined to comment.
Church, 20, was raised a Catholic and sang for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican at the age of 12.
The pilot for "The All New Charlotte Church Show" was filmed before a live studio audience July 12.
Ignatius Press was founded by Father Joseph Fessio, a California Jesuit who studied under the future Pope Benedict at the University of Regensburg in Germany in the 1970s and who continues to be a close friend.
Pope Benedict, the son of a German policeman opposed to Nazism, was forced into the Hitler Youth movement as a child, and during World War II he served briefly in an anti-aircraft battalion
I've never seen that. I can't say it doesn't happen, but if one did, he would acknowledge what the statue world represent. If he is praying to piece of stone he has some screws loose. That is paganism.
People pray at shrines but not to them.
Charlotte is rolling down a one-way road to excommunication, methinks.
Although the Church never managed to drop the hammer on Madonna, though. She pretty much left on her own.
Fortunatelyt, God tells us otherwise!
1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,[a] 2because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. 3For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature,[b] God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering.[c] And so he condemned sin in sinful man,[d] 4in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.
5Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6The mind of sinful man[e] is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; 7the sinful mind[f] is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. 8Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.
9You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. 10But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. 11And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you... -Romans 8:1ff, NIV from Zondervan
But, Paul wrote to tell them how wrong they were, in trying to crawl back under the Law. Jesus came to fulfill that Law, and intitiate a new, more dynamic rule... through the Spirit. But, it takes a little research and doubt to get a RC to see any truth outside of the rote they are taught since birth.
The Muslim community also requires strict adherence to their "religion". Fortunately, only RC's in Ireland seem to be similar in action!
She's a harbor chick! Cymru am byth!!!!!!
After all the bible is catholic, in the universal sense. Peg 'pardon. I'm Catholic and not indoctrinated since birth.
You're right. I grew up in the RC church and the ingraining from kindergarten age is powerful.
What an absolute idiot. The statements are dumb to begin with but when working for a catholic publisher they are suicide.
- - until you see someone kneel down and pray to it.
We're not worshiping statues. I invite you to keep an open mind about Catholicism and educate yourself a bit more in our beliefs (and not from anti-Catholic sources). You may still scoff at Catholicism until the day you die, but at least you will have truly discovered the origins of our traditions and practices and have a better grasp of our beliefs--understanding leads to better dialog!

Jesus was crusified, I believe. But, the cross is empty! Through His death, and resurrection, I (and any BELIEVER) am a joint heir, and priest, with Jesus, after the order of Melchizadeck. I can approach the Throne directly, and boldly. I need no other intercessor, ACCORDING to Scripture...
Mormons are convinced they hold all the truth, as well! Ask a Jehovah's Witness if they are going to heaven. How about those silly Methodists and Episcoplaians? Do you really think Southern Baptists will go to hell unless they bow to your pope?
God is the judge, and His judgment will be final! Your membership in the RC church does nothing for your salvation! You should check out the Bible, not me!
Flame away!
1The Pharisees heard that Jesus was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John, 2although in fact it was not Jesus who baptized, but his disciples. 3When the Lord learned of this, he left Judea and went back once more to Galilee.
4Now he had to go through Samaria. 5So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
7When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, "Will you give me a drink?" 8(His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)
9The Samaritan woman said to him, "You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?" (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.[a])
10Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water."
11"Sir," the woman said, "you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his flocks and herds?"
13Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
15The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water so that I won't get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water."
16He told her, "Go, call your husband and come back."
17"I have no husband," she replied.
Jesus said to her, "You are right when you say you have no husband. 18The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true."
19"Sir," the woman said, "I can see that you are a prophet. 20Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem."
21Jesus declared, "Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."

Save for later listening. The server seems to be slammed at the moment.

Sergio, I found another link which might work better.

No, she was not the one to say that. Read here.
It's worse than flatulence in an opera house. These actions are offensive to all Christians and show solidarity with all anti-Christians throughout the world, including especially the Muslim terrorists.
I am not a Catholic and I am deeply offended by anyone doing these things against Christianity or any religion. Long ago I was going to buy one of her CDs because of her voice, but I decided against it because of her toxic attitude.
May she join the Dixie Chicks' Hall of Shame and Oblivion soon.
No, what 15 year old Charlotte Church said on September 11, 2001 is not similar.
"She needs to meet up with the Dixie Chicks, they are cut from the same cloth...the stupid bolt."
That's good, I like it. (Having formerly been in the garment "biz").
