I just got a phone call from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, asking for a donation. When I tried to calmly and politely explain that Im no longer associating myself with the Democrats because they dont consider Joe Lieberman a Democrat anymore, the caller interrupted me and said, Well, thats true. Hes not a Democrat. Hes been acting like a Republican. I responded that thats a distortion of his record and briefly elaborated on why Lieberman is by no means a Republican. The caller again disagreed with me, saying, Well, if you look at the way hes been acting for the last few months I replied, See, that just isnt true, and this is precisely the problem. If the Democrats cant find room in their party for someone who agrees with them 90 percent of the time, but disagrees on an issue of conscience, then theres no room for me in the party, or words to that effect. I proceeded to explain that I feel the Democrats are no longer the big-tent party that they once were, but instead are intolerant of dissenting views like Liebermans. I might still vote for the Democrat in my district if I think hes the better candidate, I said, but Im not interested in donating any money to the party. And then, just as I was in the process of suggesting that he take my name off the DCCCs list, so as to avoid wasting either of our time in the future, the caller without saying a word simply hung up on me.
Mind you, I dont blame him for wanting to get off the phone with me; if his goal is to raise money, talking to me was clearly a waste of his time. (The call lasted nearly three minutes.) However, the appropriate way to end the conversation would have been to politely thank me for my time early in the call, as soon as it became clear that I was not a likely donor rather than arguing with me about my position and then abruptly hanging up on me while I was responding. Thats just ridiculously rude. (Incidentally, I wasnt been abusive or rude; I was emphatic, but polite, in making my points.) Its another great example of how so many Democrats have no interest in hearing alternative viewpoints and no respect for those with whom they disagree. Joe Lieberman supports the war? Call him names and smear him out of office. Some former donor supports Lieberman? Hang up on him. Not a winning strategy, folks.
WAAAAAH! DIEBOLD!
Please remember that you're talking to a liberal democrat freak, who has no sense of politeness or decency when he or she encounters someone who thinks differently.
So if the democrats had found room for Lieberman in their party, you would have donated?
Who are you posting to? I doubt the writer is a Freeper.
I just like the r-i-p-p-i-n-g sound of the Democrat party rending itself....
bttt
I work phone banks for the Pubbies quite often, and I wouldn't take the hang-up personally. Once in a while I'll get a Flaming Lib on the line by accident, or the wrong family member will answer the phone and they'll let me have it with both barrels before turning it over to the person I actually need to talk to. (Call Lists are not necessarily complete or correct.)
You're 100% correct in your thinking that we're raising money with those calls and not trolling/polling for "ideas" on how to make the par-tay better at that particular time.
Still, I'm signed up for all sorts of DemonRat e-mails, and I've got my "Friends of Hillary!" bumpersticker all ready to deface and put on my bumper for Fall '06. And I lie to 'Rat pollsters at every opportunity. I figure I'll tell them what they WANT to hear because it gives them a false sense of security, and then when they LOSE, it's all the sweeter for me. I'm that 3.5% "margin of error" you read of so often. ;)
All is fair in Love & Politics, as far as I'm concerned. And I'm in it to WIN! :)
Well, at least he knows he was talking to a REAL Democrat.
I thought it was a vanity. Apologies.
In 6 years Lieberman went from the Democratic candidate for Veep to a status somewhere between sewer gas and maggot scum.
C'mon, Joe. I'll still have you over for dinner even if it took you several years longer than Zell Miller to figure out what was going on with the DemocRAT party.
Yah, the party of "tolerance." PTUI
And yes, I undertand that YOU didn't write this. I'm just sayin'...
Maybe they can call themselves "Liberals that don't hate America."
I, too, let many liberal organizations have my name in their list. I means they overestimate their support at least by one (may be more if they use some kind of multiplier formula).
Yeah.
Now might be the time for ol' Joe to run a cost/benefit analysis.
Let's see...
You went from supporting 'family values' to kissing Hollywood's behind for money.
You abandoned a tenet of Orthadox Judaism, in supporting partial birth abortion, for money from NOW/NARAL/Planned Parenthood.
You turned yourself from 'conscience of the Senate' to 'enabler of a serial sex offender', for political power.
And, after all that, the people you crawled through the mud for, where are they today? Ah, yesssss. Either working openly against you, or 'supporting the Democrat candidate' (i.e., working against you, but not so openly).
So, Joe: all told, you think you got a good deal?
Just curious...
Same thing happened to me with the RNC. I told them how I am very dissatisfied with the border issue, and the person hung up on me.
Is this something you just made up?
the party of "tolerance."
As an interesting side note, the predecessor of the Democratic Party was the Whigs who were in favor of slavery...
Glad to hear there are others as subversive as I am out there! :)
"...may be more if they use some kind of multiplier formula."
I doubt they do that. They're not all that bright. ;)
They call every race as a victory based on exit polling and even if they don't win, they lamely try to spin it so it's STILL a victory (in their minds) for their side, LOL!
Dorks.
They're going to be defeated so badly this '06 election season that they'll need to look UP to see DOWN. ;)
