ANSWER Protest Video
A Soldier's Perspective ^ | 13 August 2006 | Chcknhawk

After watching yesterday's demonstrations in D.C., I was inspired to make a video about it. I still can't believe that people in THIS country were marching in support of terrorism. There are no dead bodies or gory images in the video, unless you consider kids with guns in their hands and hate in their eyes gory, like I do.

Well different strokes for different folks. For me the sound track was an unlistenable horror. I know some people like "thrash metal" or whatever, but they are a small minority.

Also the rapid cuts of protesters, I think the message is subsumed under the style. This could almost (if you squint) be looked at as a pro-hezboallah piece. I mean imagine seeing it on some leftist channel.

You obviously have a lot of skills as a video editor. I'd love to see this re-cut to be less jumpy with a voice over narration that explains the context, and basically makes the points you are trying to make explicit.

Agree with Black Jack.....screeching rattling music conveys the feelings of hate but it is all a wild rage.
Found myself in the hate-rage looking at Murtha and Mother Sheehan. It's a fine line from reason to insanity sometimes.

i liked it
good pics, i like the way the frames change with the beat, i thought it was pretty damn nice!!
sometimes not having a voiceover or a narration can help people escape the feeling of being lectured or having to listen to someone, frankly!
i like the idea to just show the pictures, add a little music, and walk away with whatever comes to mind

once again, nice job!

well the benefit of that is that the viewer doesnt't feel the "sales pitch" of whoever made the video
its like going to a car dealership and just looking around without the panting salesman screaming about incentives in your ear
a more laid back approach can draw viewers in rather than a pounding drum (metaphorically, not referring to the music) that makes people want to run away

i like the laid back approach

One of the things I realized early on in creating the video was that the music would be harsh. I chose a harsh song because I think their tactics are harsh.

After finishing the video, I watched it muted and noticed also that the video could very well be perceived as pro-terrorist. At that point, I had the idea of adding Murtha Focker and Cindy Sheehag. After all, if it's going to be perceived as a pro-hezbollah video, I wanted to make sure ALL the players were allowed on the field.

Thanks for all the comments. I think I'm succeeding in my goal as there are many different takes on it. I wish I had taken more video because I didn't want to use so many stock photos. Maybe next time.

By the way, it was nice seeing all the Freepers on the corner at the beginning of the march. You guys warm my heart every time I see you. I'm glad there was a bigger voice than my own taking on these nutcases. I can't believe I actually had an argument with a veteran who was carrying an upside down flag. Vietnam really soured him. Now he's marching in support of the very people who would kill him in an instant.

The video is very good, the soundtrack adding menace but the pics telling their own story.

More than ever it shows the facist military nature of the enemy, Well done - I hope it gets a wider audience. Some chilling images (int he good old fashioned meaning of the term)

Focker and Sheehag were a very appropriate addition...and that song made the perfect impact. I hope you make more!

I've actually just recently started making videos. It all started with a video I made as a tribute to my daughter while I was seeing if I was any good at it. I liked it enough that I'm working on making a video tribute to each of my kids. Here's the video that kicked it all off (using a much softer country tune as the backdrop):
