Still, I think you may be underestimating the effectiveness of leftist rhetoric and the tools the Left has available (another way of putting that being that you are overestimating the American public's ability to see through the Left message.

You're right, the Left and their media allies keep pulling the same playbook... But the Left doesn't require to the mainstream of the American public to be excited over their program, whose goal is not really to solve problems imo.

The goals of Left programs in foreign policy are to establish the perception of authenticity of their good intentions, and they've succeeded in that.

The gay agenda, Kyoto, affirmative action, the minimum wage, going easy on crime, Kerry's "global test", even their pro-choice agenda with abortion--- each of these work as a public and private relations move; each of these things establish their promoters as good people, to the American public and to themselves.

Kyoto shows the left cares more about conserving nation than cowtowing to business interests, and the fact that it would disproportionately hurt America only further establishes the Left's sincerity.

Promoting the pro-choice agenda shows that the Left wing isn't sexist, that they respect the choices of women.

The global test and the Left's like proposals show they respect other nations.

Affirmative action shows the Left it is not in the hippocket of racists, which means the Left cares about women and minorities, especially blacks.

Similarly, the minimum wage shows it is not in the hippocket of business, which shows it cares about workers, especially poor workers.

Conservatives haven't convinced the mainstream of the country that they aren't racistsbigotshomophobes, not to mention sexists.

I mean, generally when a conservative politician wants to show he's none of those things, he makes concessions to the Left agenda. That shows the tremendous symbolic power of that agenda, to which conservatives have no symbolic counterpart of their own.

What you call and in fact has been Hillary's lying on Iraq is, in symbolic propaganda terms, a sign of her moderation. Having no alternative to Leftism, the only choices are "moderate" incremental leftism or revolutionary leftism. The "sane" supporters of Hillary see her deceptions re Iraq as not only clever political strategy, but as a sign that she is practical in addition to being good-- it's a sign of her "nuance".

Does anyone watch Washington Journal on C-SPAN? It's been quite awhile since I've tuned in. Holy Cow it seems that everyone from Move-on is calling in on the Republican line this morning. I imagine that's nothing new though. What gets me is when a "Republican" starts citing the movie Loose Change the host lets them go on and on.

I always thought that those were they same people who voted for President Buchanan in 2000.

That story makes my skin crawl. Buying Tracphones and reselling them makes no sense...stealing and reselling yes, buying and reselling no.

If these guys were in posession of a thousand of them, what kind of conspiracy might they be in on?

This latest British plot shows exactly what danger we are in. Those were homegrown terrorists, and with our larger, similar population of Muslims, there has to be the same threat. A thousand phones hints at a large attack.

Very plausible. I also read where these guys would immediately open the cell phone boxes and put the batteries in a separate bucket, and maybe also set aside the smart chips. That doesn't seem like a way to preserve the detonator function once the batteries are out. I hope the NSA, FBI, CIA, ETC. are thinking about this.

Expect the media spin that the president is taking this for political advantage? What 's wrong with that, if that 's the case?

Nothing! In fact, he oughta, and we should also answer the left with the fact that they sure in blazes have gone after Bush politically for US failures in the war, and they've never let up, so why shouldn't he claim victory when things go our way? (Which is amazingly anti-terror pro-keeping us alive)

This is absolutely amazing-but, not unexpected.
NBC News hawks Lisa Myer's piece-based on the standard NBC " unnamed sources ."
NBC's usual sources " People are saying " and " Many in Washington " are apparently on vacation.
No joke- Brian Williams routinely sources his propaganda pieces this way.
The gist of Myer's " blockbuster " is that the US pressured the Brits to fold up the terrorists prematurely. US authorities deny that report. That doesn't stop CNN or NBC from promoting this false report as news.
Brian Williams is in London- could he be Myer's secret source ? Hmmm.....

I think one day the call was going to go out for the sleeper cells in countries across the globe but definitely within the US at the least, for bombs to go off in Home Depots, malls, hospitals, etc.

And, yes, I suspect Dr. Dean would come back as a flat line.  That would mean he is "clinically dead" and we could start harvesting organs for transplant (or stem cell research).  Of course, since he's still talking we have to assume that he's a zombie (can't be a vampire, he goes out in the daytime).

A very good wrte up of the events by Time's Mike Allen shows the UK & US cooperation.

"The President was very, very clear about his priorities," one aide recalled, adding that those included assistance to the British, cooperation within the U.S. government and protection for passengers. Administration officials said the FBI and CIA, which have had trouble working and playing well with each other, dovetailed better than they have on any crisis in years.

Various U.S. intelligence and security agencies could have taken charge of tracking the plot and planning new restrictions on U.S. travelers, but Bush kept the job in-house.

There was an arrest in Marietta Ohio of Michigan ME men buying up cell phones. Marietta is on Ohio River, Pittsburgh is on 3 rivers. Mackinac Bridge's 5 mile span is described by FBI as a target. Maybe plot involves van bomb taking out bridges, but if they have a live suicide driver, why use a detonator?

Glad you were able to catch the segment with Mehlman. He should go on shows more often; he is a great head of the RNC and a terrific spokesman.

That is the reason why he does not go on more shows they do not ask him because he is such a goods spokesman.
