The target is 'locked' by a guidance system and the warhead is coming from someplace else, isn't that true?

Therefore, the view you're getting in the video is an automated one and not in control of the pilot.

At that speed they had to be at some distance for the guys on the ground not to hear the jet coming .

Or they were going supersonic. ;-)

Great. Too bad there weren't any Human Shields nearby. But anyway, this is great.

I don't know what Paveway (laser guided) kits cost. JDAM (GPS) kits are about 20K with the bomb body costing about 2 bucks per pound.

Out of curiosity, what do you think that op cost?

Much, much more than they were worth, but if you are carrying a .45 and see a mouse, I suppose one has to make do.

But that discounts the value of the target vehicle and its occupants.

And, if you figure that the IED they were planting could maim or kill one of our guys....it is WELL worth it.

500 lb bomb - $10,000
Laser guided targeting system - $20,000
Predator Drone - $90,000
Three 1-way tickets to hell - Priceless.

"Gimme three steps mister" didn't work here I guess.

Lol.

Three steps isn't enough when a 500 pounder is dropped on top of you.

The end result was the same though.

Of course, there is no way to know what damage it averted. However, saving soldiers from injury is not the object of war, unless you are with John Murtha and want to put them all in Okinawa. btw, I do not oject, as I said, I am curious, only.

I like your comment about the mouse and 45. I guess you might consider that the alternative might be that army of 500,000 to be everywhere. If that is the choice a predator is probably cheap.

I know. I think the best solution is to put Murtha on Okinawa.
