The United States has now said that it will not allow direct flights to operate between Pakistan and any American destination.
This move has been taken keeping in mind the recent terror threats.
The US is also concerned about security at Pakistani airports and has promised to help Pakistan enhance security at all its airports and provided some equipment in this regard.
Pakistan International Airways has three flights to New York, Houston and Chicago but they are not direct. They all make stopovers, mostly in European or gulf destinations.
The move, aviation experts say, is suggestive of the US not trusting Pakistani security clearances of hand baggage.
If there are stopovers and aircraft changes, hand baggage would be cleared again. (With PTI inputs)

I wonder where PIA will fly their 777-200LR's now that they'r not needed to fly nonstop to the US? I wonder what kind of launch discount they got for them, because they are expensive planes.

Well that sucks. I always liked seeing the PIA 777's at IAH.
Oh well, I can understand the reasons.

I think they flew nonstop to JFK.

Are they allowing spotting at IAH since the bombing plot was broken up?
To: Paleo Conservative
Haven't heard about them stopping it. As long as you don't try to get into areas where you shouldn't be, IAH tends to be pretty spotter friendly.
Of course, this time of year not many people go spotting in Texas.

I don't think they were ever allowed nonstop. This seems just like an extension of the present restrictions.

I don't think they were ever allowed nonstop. This seems just like an extension of the present restrictions. Do they have full 5th freedom rights for their flights out of the UK? Do they ever sell tickets for the UK-US and US-UK legs? I definitely would not fly them anywhere.

When I worked in the Gulf and M.E. I would always try to fly PIA. The accommodations in First and Business were better than any American or European airline.

To: Paleo Conservative
The UK & Far-East/Australia routes are the only ones which come to mind, though those could be covered by their 747s.PIA has had a relatively solid record in recent years when compared to other carriers in the region.

Oh SUUURRRE! What's next?? Banning of ALL flights which carry crescent flag logos on it? That's airplane profiling at its nastiest!
