The FBI, Homeland Security and police are investigating a suspicious purchase of cell phones at a Wal-Mart in Caro, Mich.
Three men were arrested Friday on suspicion of buying more than 1,000 cell pones, Local 4 reported.
The Nokia Tracfones cost about $20, and customers receive a phone plus 40 minutes of airtime. Also, the phones do not have to be registered to a name, the station reported. These are the same type of phones connected to terror charges against two Dearborn men arrested in Ohio, according to the station's report.

Where did they get the cash to buy the phones?

That's my opinion. A few Muslim men caught in one place buying cell phones, no story. Many different groups of Muslim men caught in various parts of the country buying cell phones...you bet there's a story and probably cause for alarm.
From Wikipedia:
"Lithium batteries and methamphetamine labs
Unused lithium batteries provide a convenient source of lithium metal for use as a reducing agent in illegal methamphetamine labs. Some jurisdictions restrict or limit the sale of lithum batteries in an attempt to help curb the creation of illegal meth labs. However, the heavy demand for lithium batteries for use in modern, current-hungry devices such as digital cameras conflicts with such restrictions, and they remain controversial. For example, in Wal-Mart stores the limit of sale is four packages of lithium batteries (three in Missouri). [8] Rechargeable Ni-MH batteries are overtaking the disposable lithium batteries since they are more economical."

Phone & toss...
In Iraq and elsewhere, islamic terrorists use cell funds to detonate ieds. I wonder what the going rate is for cell phones in Iraq, Kashmir, Londonistan, Northwest territories, Baluchistan, Helmand Province, Kandahar, etal ?
i also heard flight/airport/security info was found...
How are about we require background checks on everyone purchasing cell phones now? (Sarcasm)
Sounds like another fishing expedition by the Feds to me.
This particular incident has been posted here countless times.
This is a big story. Another thread on this had lots of Freeper naysayers but a real picture is coming together that can't be written off as ME businessmen.
This might be a situation of dishonest arbitrageurs understanding that the value of the parts is greater than the cost of buying a Tracphone - sell the batteries in bulk to meth lab owners (which they can't get in bulk at Wal*Mart); the phones in bulk to organized crime and terrorists, who don't really need new batteries, just new phones (which they can't get in bulk at Wal*Mart or most places without getting on camera); and the chargers to phone kiosks or just chuck them. Following their customer chain might lead to some very bad people, even if the phone purchasers themselves aren't terrorists.
Nothing suspicious here, right?
Yes, one of the men who was arrested in Mich., his mom worked for an airline.
