Kerry slams Fitzpatrick's shift against Bush [Pot, meet kettle]
Courier Times ^ | 8-12-2006 | BRIAN SCHEID

Posted on 08/12/2006 10:37:15 AM PDT by Hadean

In a conference call Friday morning, U.S. Sen. John Kerry called Bucks County Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick’s recent stand against President Bush’s “stay-the-course” policy in Iraq a “short-term political ploy.”

The 2004 Democratic presidential candidate said Fitzpatrick’s opposition to the president offered “no plan, no direction; it only offers criticism.”

On Monday, Fitzpatrick said Bush has been “mistaken in crucial ways vital to the success of our mission” in Iraq and said he would no longer support the president’s “stay-thecourse” policy there.

Fitzpatrick also said he wouldn’t support what he called Murphy’s “cut-and-run” strategy in Iraq and offered no additional policy alternative in the war.

“That’s not adequate,” Kerry said in a conference call with Patrick Murphy, the Democrat facing Fitzpatrick in this November’s 8th District election. “This is not leadership.”

“Congress is on the wrong track and Patrick Murphy is ready to bring change to Washington,” the Massachusetts senator said. “We want to win the war on terror and we believe we have a more effective way of waging the war on terror.”

Murphy said he didn’t feel Fitzpatrick’s criticism of Bush’s Iraq policy was “genuine” and said it was merely a way for the freshman congressman to stand up to Bush without offering any new ideas.

“That’s what’s wrong with politics today,” said Murphy, an Iraq war veteran who worked on Kerry’s presidential campaign. “I find it shameful that Mike Fitzpatrick would play political games with the lives of American soldiers.”

In June, Kerry introduced an amendment to redeploy U.S. combat troops out of Iraq by July 1, 2007. In December, Murphy introduced his own exit strategy, calling for National Guard and Reserves soldiers to return home no later than this summer.

Fitzpatrick said Friday that those exit strategies have already proven impractical since all but nine U.S. senators voted against Kerry’s amendment.

Fitzpatrick said an exit strategy is “a foolish and dangerous idea which would render meaningless the sacrifices young Americans have made in this war and increase the threat of more and worse terrorism here at home.”

Kerry said Fitzpatrick’s idea that an exit date would set a dangerous precedent was a “silly statement.” He said violence has increased in Iraq every day and American presence there was only increasing that violence and emboldening more terrorists.

“Who’s kidding who?” Kerry asked. “Mike Fitzpatrick needs to understand that he’s debating with himself.”

After reading that twice, I still had trouble figuring out what these Dems were arguing about - and then it hit me:

They're arguing amongst themseleves as to who was "for it before they were against it" first!

Kerry knows all about flip flopping for short term political gain. I hope he and Kennedy are not really a reflection of the intelligence of the Massachusetts voters.

Oh, wait. Weren't they the ones who have been instrumental in blowing $16 billion on a crappy tunnel that could have been built far cheaper, faster and better by any underground coal mining company in Appalachia?

I still can't believe John Kerry has the influence to get reporters together for a conference call. The guy couldn't even pack a supermarket as a guest judge in a Coke vs. Pepsi taste test.

For those of you who remember the classic sitcom Green Acres, I think that John Kerry has become the "Hank Kimball" of American politics:

"I totally support the war in Iraq......well, I don't totally support it.....actually, I'm against it....oaky, I'm not completely against it, I'm....what was the question again?"

Another truly worried "poll"-itician who doesn't have a clue, but wants to come down solidly on both sides of the fence.

First of all, if it isn't clearly evident from this "report", the Bucks County Courier Times is a Democrat toilet tissue - - as liberal as the New York Times but in a more juvenile "Daily Collegian" sort of way. My wife and I poop-canned our subscription to that p.o.s. long ago.

Second, I am in Fitzpatrick's district and I wonder if I'll be able to hold my nose and vote for him. The guy is following the Jim Greenwood model of straddling the fence as a scaredy cat "moderate". Jim Greenwood was Mike's predecessor in the district.

For example, Mike voted against ANWR drilling in order to pander to the "environmentalists" and the ignorant, go-along, liberal newsroom-indoctrinated rabble who don't understand that the proposed drilling site at ANWR is roughly equivalent in size to a dime dropped on the corner of a frozen barren football field. Mike, the liberal newsrooms, and the corrupt Democrats who are in the pocket of "environmentalist" lobbies prefer to show the leaping caribou which would somehow be displaced by drilling.

I don't see any reason tha a real conservative can't win here, despite the heavy influx of scumbag Democrats who escaped Philadelphia (after they helped destroy it with their Democrat votes) and the sodomite strongholds of the New Hope/River Road villages.
