Crist worries conservatives
Tribune ^ | 11 August 2006 | Joe Follick

TALLAHASSEE -- Republican Tom Gallagher is betting his political life on an appeal to Christian and social conservatives. And at least one of his supporters in those groups say their own future is at stake in Gallagher's quest to be governor.

Gallagher has earned the endorsement of Florida Right to Life, as well as vocal support of most social conservative leaders in the state. His goal: Win the hearts of Republicans most likely to get out and vote on Sept. 5.

Charlie Crist is a liberal.

You just made my point.

As Reagan would say "There you go again"!

Crist seems to have a connection to some of the people/organizations that supported Michael Schiavo and George Felos.
He comes from the same area of Florida from which those folks operated.
He is an (trial?) attorney.
I hope Gallagher stays in the race--he will definitely get my vote.

Socialist?? LOL, far from it. You know nothing about me, except that I think Tom Gallagher is a scumbag and should not be governor. If he were to win the primary, I would vote for him over the Democrat. You, on the other hand, have already said you will support the Democrat if Crist wins the primary. Also, I believe you'll find your social views are a lot closer to socialism than mine are.

I apologize to you if you think I twisted your words around, but I wasn't.
Here's what you said about the ethics charges, which have been proven to be a lie:
"Tom Gallagher was cleared of the ethics charge. The news media never got around to reporting that he was CLEARED. They broke the so called scandal on a Friday but by Saturday, TOM GALLAGHER had already been cleared of everything."

Then, you said, "Brett Dozier was Jeb Bush's campaign manager and works for Tom G. Crist's campaign mgr is a developer's son. Crist is fuzzy on eminent domain - gee, wonder why."
Those are your words. I didn't make that up Do I need to tell you again why they are so ridiculous? Just in case you forgot, Charlie Crist led the fight for new eminent domain legislation in the state immediately following the Kilo decision. Also, Doster's dad is a real estate developer, just like's Sembler's dad.

Then you say, "The relationship between Jeb and Crist is strained. This is not a new development."
If you have ANY PROOF of this WHATSOEVER, we would all love to see it. Otherwise, please stop making this stuff up.

The other comments were about the polls getting closer, Crist being weak on 2nd amendment, etc. I'm sure you don't dispute that you said that, right? I'm still waiting for any shred of proof of tightening polls and Crist being weak on the 2nd amendment.

That was such a sad case. How horrible to have the man who has a live in mistress and other conflict of interest issues, be designated Terri's guardian. That is scary.

In Sunny von Bulow's case, for example, her children and not the husband were designated guardians for this reason. And, of course, Terri never made a living will, and her estranged husband admitted on TV that he had no idea what her wish would have been. I doubt it would have been to be dehydrated to death. What a horrible way to die.

"Right to Die/euthanasia/forced exits are not compatible with Free Republic's position on the right to life."

You are welcome to that opinion.

I would also hope that allowing one's spouse through the court in honoring another spouse's wish as to medical treatment and following local, state, and local laws is compatible with Free Republic's forum.

Having the State be the only lawful say, which is what you are proposing, to me, is very liberal and socialist in its thinking.

Seems like ladies have a fatal attraction to his type (like the did to Clinton)

Mr. Gallagher, while he was working his fingers to the bone in Washington D.C. had a visit from his wife who had flown up from Florida to spend some time with him.

Her father-in-law had to go to the airport to pick her up because Tom was out on a date....with a married woman. Shades of Bill Clinton and Gary Condit.

I object to that kind of person exploiting the Republican Party and putting us in a bad light like that.

Maybe you can swallow his candidacy, but I prefer not to take refuge in denial.

I'm not saying that Michael Schiavo was perfect, he wasn't. But you can't bring his personal life (and sin) into the case and use it to make lawful judgments.

Yes, you can when it involves a conflict of interest. This is used all the time in courts, such as the Sunny von Bulow case.

This is OT. But to comment on that case, I thought Derkowitz (sp?) was right to argue on her husband's defense.

The children committed illegalities when they hired private investigators and pursued that case and Derkowitz was able to overcome them.

So you are saying that the fact that Mr. Schiavo was living in sin with another woman should have disqualified him?

The children were right in what they did. I'm sure you wuold have done the dame for your mother. and the courts agreed.

If I remember, Derkowitz appealed and won. The children in that case lost.

This was just one of a long list of things pointing to conflict of interest. I am sure you would not want such a man be made your guardian. I recommend Mark Furhman's book, "Silent Witness." (One of the most moving article was written by Martin Katz in the American Thinker). But we are getting a little off topic here.

Why yes you can, if you have an actual Florida Supreme Court who will agree rather than the current set of Floozies.

the seriously flawed candidate is the subject of this thread. now, let's make this about the candidates and stop picking on me. I do not insult other freepers and if Crist's supporters are willing to pick on Gallagher supporters, then he deserves to lose to Jim Davis.

I think it is profoundly appropriate that bull-s**t be delivered via a bull-horn, and I congratulate you in its use.

Ya' got my "thumbs-up".

There was no wish. After the big settlement award for Terri's rehabilitation, Mikey took the settlement money, cut off her rehabilitation and gave the rehab monies to death lawyers who judge shopped to Judge Greer.

They MURDERED HER. Got it?

The mainstream media will retire someday and the new blood may start reporting the facts of the matter.
