This time, it seems, it was the real deal: Terrorists reportedly came thisclose to launching another major attack against Americans.
Thank goodness it was snagged in time.
The plot was to simultaneously explode bombs aboard 10 flights headed for the United States from Britain. Police say it would have resulted in "mass murder on an unimaginable scale."
Indeed, even with 24 plotters arrested, some cause for concern remains. Yesterday, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff warned, "We cannot be sure that the threat has been entirely eliminated or the plot completely thwarted."
Scary stuff.
And it comes at a time when the nation is deeply divided over whether to stand down from the War on Terror - or to stand tough.
Those who want to cut and run - to lie down and surrender to terror - made Ned Lamont the Democratic Party's candidate for U.S. senator in Connecticut on Tuesday.
Do they see the threat now?
If Lamont gets traction in the general election, it'll signal an alarming backslide in America's efforts to fight this war.
That would be horrific - giving terrorists the encouragement they seek.
We know where we stand: This is a war that must be fought.
Like it or not.
At home and abroad.
And with every tool available.
The news yesterday drove home a painful truth: As President Bush said (as he has before), America "is safer than it was prior to 9/11" - but "not completely safe. It is a mistake to believe that there is no threat to the United States."
As Bush said, America "is at war with Islamic fascists who will use any means to destroy those who love freedom [and] to hurt our nation."

Granted luck is part of it but it helps to know what's going on.

A recent terrorist trial, and conviction, of an Islamic terrorists in New York City brought out the extent to which police have infiltrated Moslem communities in order to uncover terrorist plots. While most of this counter-terrorist activity within Moslem communities is kept secret, enough information has leaked out to make it clear that it's no accident that the United States has not suffered another terrorist attack since September 11, 2001.
There is an extensive informant network within Moslem communities all over the United States. The FBI was pleasantly surprised right after September 11, 2001, by the number of calls they got from American Moslems, reporting suspicious events in their communities, or volunteering to keep an eye on things.......
Bad case of dumbass, nevertheless.
This was spot on. Naming the
Enemy and stripping them of
the moniker of Terrorist is great
way to frame our resolve. The use
of word "Terror" as in Terrorist,
conversely imparts connotations
of victims, weakness, fear on the
West.
I hope to hear Traitor and
Saboteurs in describing these
facist as well.

"All right, then...what do you think he's waiting for? Why not take care of nasty business when it arises?"
He is waiting until nearer the end of his term; certainly not before the November elections, and maybe not before '08. We all know that Swifty left him a big mess, and that we are now dealing with the consequences of eight years of turning the other cheek, total mismanagement, and sheer stupidity. I can't make myself believe that George W. Bush is the kind of man to kick that can down the road for the next guy.
He feels an obligation to leave things better than he found them, and will -- for sure -- eliminate Shitforbrainsijad and his butt-boy, Assad, the mullahs and Baathists that prop them up, and probably two or three other jihadi supporters. It will be much more up close and personal than a protracted invasion or nuke strike.
More times than not, the man has done exactly what he has said he is going to do, and I do not think he will leave office with this key part of The Bush Doctrine unfulfilled.
If Iran pulls off some major fiasco, as threatened, by August 22, all bets are off.
MS talking about cabbage is much preferable to the yelling and screaming jags he gets into on occasion.
When I said we have been lucky, I know that the intelligence agencies have been working overtime to keep another attack from happening.
We've heard it time and again. That we have to be vigilant 24/7. They only have to win once to hurt us.
I have no doubt in my mind that there are American Muslims out there that are on the right side of freedom and liberty.
However, they may be in the minority.
It is the Mullahs that we have to watch. They are causing most of the discontent in the population.
Just look at the latest arrests in Georgia and Michigan. Now where were those prepaid phones going?
What kind of gunslinger carries a parasol?

ah, so the real news is that it just doesn't get picked up.
