Looking for Map of Cell Phone Purchases
self | August 11, 2006 | madison10

Posted on 08/11/2006 3:01:13 PM PDT by madison10

Has any one made a map, or done any tracking, of cities/towns the cell phones are being purchased? or of where the suspects are being picked up?

Thanks.

Everyone on here is probably right, but it still doesn't mean I need to accept the status quo of the 'pc' crowd.

Agreed. Agreed. And agreed again.

I think you dropped the bomb on the nail when you said....

Maybe if our government would do the 'profiling' that should be, instead of all the 'pc' crap, none of this would be necessary.

That can't be said enough.

Hell yes, we need to profile.

The Liberal beast from within needs to be disposed of first, then we can properely deal with the external threat.

Right now, one is preventing the other from happening.

That is going to change, my friend. That change will be brought about by one of two events happening. 1) We, as a country, suddenly realize what needs to be done and do it. Probability = < 10%. 2) We get hit again. Probability = >80%.

No, I'm not an expert. But I slept some where last night, ok?

Stop and take a look at how the Democrats have responded to yesterday's events. Not really a whole lot so far. The One that Shall not be Named blasting the GOP for using this for political gain, etc.

Watch the weekend shows. I'm sure they will find some way to blame GWB. They have already started that, actually.

Blame GWB. That is all they have. Or even want to have.

No thoughts about the bigger picture of defending this country. Just hate for GWB.

That stuff is only good for X amount of miles. Yesterday's events are more proof for the public that there really is a boogy man out there. The media can't hide that.

We, as a country, may be a bit too slow on the uptake, but people are indeed waking up.

I just pray that it does not take another hit on the homeland to get this country focused on the real issues, WOT and the borders.

I understand your frustration. I am equally as frustrated.

Police say the three, ages 19, 22, and 23 appear to be naturalized citizens. One man was driving while the other two were in the back opening the phone packages with box cutters throwing the phones in one box, batteries in another and the packaging and phone charger in another container.

Could it be possible that they are just stripping these phones of their batteries and charger and unit to sell them separately so they could make a profit? I mean, what would you need 1000 phones for? 1000 IED's? You could do enough damage with 10 and attract far less attention. Besides, they would have to obtain enough explosives to construct at 1000 and that would attract even greater attention. I think these phones are being 'scavenged' for their parts for resale. I think it is logical to assume that someone could find enough parts in a $20 Tracfone to sell separately for profit. For all we know, these guys could be geniuses.

while the other two were in the back opening the phone packages with box cutters

Oh no, god forbid BOX-CUTTERS! This obvious 9-11 reference was mean to inflame and horrify.

I haven't seen this much scare-mongering since the year after 9-11.

People are really uptight right now. I am not saying that bad things won't happen, I just say if we let things like this scare us, THE TERRORISTS HAVE WON.

I don't think any of us are scared and there may be a perfectly good explanation but something strange is happening and I prefer dealing with it now instead of later.

"THE TERRORISTS HAVE WON."

Oh, I wouldn't say that. If in the near future, roadside explosive devices are detonated to kill american citizens, mooselimbs may suddenly become extinct. About the only place to see them will be in a museum somewhere, stuffed and mounted.

Other people who buy them are parents who want their kids to have access to a cell phone for a short time only (and with control over the cost); people who have older (cell phone-less) parents or grandparents and want to stay in contact while the (grand)parents travel; and, yes, people who either can't afford one or choose not to spend their money that way.

"One can setoff IED with cell phones, kitchen timers, pagers, PDAs with wireless access and a host of other tech.

Should we register the owners of those things too?"

That's a very good question, RFC_Gal.

OPINION: It seems cell phones are the popular purchase at this point.
For what reason?
Only time will tell.

Maybe we should just come up with a list of banned items:

Guns, knives, ice picks, sharp and pointy sticks, rocks over a certain size, heavy movable objects like cars and trucks, cell phones, iPods and all MP3 players, home phones, kitchen timers, laptops or any type of electronics with batteries, electrical light fixtures, any primary liquid that could potentially be used in a binary liquid device (that includes all household cleaning products except dish soap), etc., etc.

That's just a partial list. Would that make you FEEL safer? The reason I ask is because if you stop and think for a moment that doing all that won't actually MAKE you any safer. But if you are into the feel-goodism of the 21st century this would take care of it.

That is some scary stuff. If you consider how many thousands of cell phones could have been purchased this year alone, by potential terrorists! Don't think for one minute that the timing of our police forces finding these people, and the Brit terror plot being foiled all points to a big deal occurring either on August 22, in compliance with Iran or another September 11th. For sure, terrorists are among us and are planning something very big. I hope Homeland Security and the FBI and CIA are doing all they can and has the $$$ they need to do that job.

Last month in Houston, some guy blew himself up and his apartment but his room mate survived. They say he was using some strange chemicals and blew himself up. They found some sort of other explosive devises in the apartment. I will have to check the story again on followup to see what they actually made of this story.

Can you imagine the chaos that will insue if IED's are launched all over this country at things like petroleum plants, refineries, government buildings, malls, etc???

This is SCARY STUFF!!!!!!

Everyone keep their eyes and ears open. The public are the best defense against some suspicious looking people. My fear is them attacking something around Petroleum plants, refineries.

The cost of the phone is less then the cost of selling the part or modifying the phone to work on other providers.

1: Buy tracfone
2: Replace included authorized battery with cheap knockoff
3: Take advantage of tracfone offers to get extra minutes.
4: Sell phone with cheap battery and free minutes for more than you paid.
5: Sell original battery for a profit.

Your list would make sense for Middle Easterners to be checked when they buy these a hundred at a time or more. The problem is that retailers have been remiss in reporting suspicious activity.
