I have been reading about this all morning, it is great news. It at least gives some hope that we may one day find a treatment or even a cure.

"Every pathway we can discover that modifies amyloid provides us with new drug targets," said Dr. Sam Gandy, a neuroscientist at Philadelphia's Thomas Jefferson University and an Alzheimer's Association spokesman. "This now opens up a new pathway" for developing anti-Alzheimer's drugs.

Yeah, too late for my 94-year old grandmother, too. I saw her yesterday, but I might as well have visited a potted palm.

She has about an hour of lucidity a week, and I have to time my visits just right!

...but it's not too late for me!

uh...what's not too late for me?

My dad passed that point years ago. He's been bed-ridden since Dec '02, has a G-tube and generally is unaware of our presence. :o(

But yes, this discovery could well save us from their fate.

Watching a loved one die of alzheimers is about the most painful thing a person can do...Alzheimers doesn't just kill someone, it takes their soul away first...

This is great news, if it can be applied.

"Scientists make discovery in Alzheimer's"

Impossible. We all know that there will be no breakthroughs in Alzheimer's disease because President Bush has banned all research with Embryonic Stem Cells.

Shalom.

I encourage as many of you who can to please donate to Alzheimer's Disease Research. I've seen this firsthand and in my opinion, there is nothing worse than this. Unlike some other life-threatening illnesses, there is no smoking or intercourse or any sort of behavior which can bring it about. We must make every effort to defeat these sorts of diseases.

Point well made. Seriously I do hope they make a break through it is a ravaging illness unto death - look at all the money gong to AIDS - it's all to do with lobbies - something the luvvey-left know more about then us.

Hey, y'all who are worrying about Alzheimers.....consider taking Lithate Aspartate....20 mg daily......it's been proven that the shrinking "grey matter" that doctors were told about in college doesn't happen with those taking Lithium....Lithate is over the counter......it also helps alcoholics and their families (hereditary issues).....Check out the research.
