What on earth is Ohmert about anyways? Can't this guy just make up his mind?

No. Ask the IDF.

This is going to strengthen Condi's hand at the talks, but it will take about 72 hours for the armored spearhead to fully develop. I expect the panzer groups to bypass the Hezzie strongpoints. Condi needs to know how to wait out the pressure now. She has to go in and tell those people that they had a deal, but they blew it.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Do they have any ordnance of significance that they haven't yet used that could make their "charge" more likely to succeed? I'm thinking MOAB...

I didn't see it so much out of frustration, but really just an unimaginative frontal assault on a well entrenched enemy. What I cannot understand is why they wouldn't do an airborne or seaborne assault to hit the Hezzie's rear and draw them out of those fortifications. Maybe now we could see some more imagination in the IDF's actions...a Patton-like strike through the center of the line and an encircling movement?

I like the way you think. Frontal firepower does not win battles, strategy and imagination does.

Good week in WOT

1) Ned Lamont wins (Showing voter that dems are weak on WOT)
2) British & US intelligence nab would-be bombers (Using NSA and Swift monitoring to the chagrin of NYTs)
3) Israel is now agressively going after the Hezbos

This argument is old, and wrong. What you have been witnessing is called Gunboat Diplomacy. What Israel has done is cause Hezbollah to reveal their troop movements in anticipation of a ground offensive. A satellite with a big-ass camera is a wonderful thing. Combine that with the call for Cluster munitions, and what you have is a bunch of terrorists about to become swiss cheese. Israel isn't asking for Cluster bombs, they are asking for REPLACEMENT Cluster bombs for the ones that they are about to use. It was a head fake everyone, just to see which way the terrorists would flinch. Israel is about to chew them up. Remember who told you first.

They've been having problems because Hezbollah is so well dug-in to the terrian...its hard for artillery and air strikes to target them. Look for a heavy armored spearhead through the center of the Hezbollah fortifications, maybe accompanied by airborne movements, with the goal to encircle and flank the Hezbollah positions.

Ordinarially I would agree with you, but with all the dissatisfaction at the top, the shuffling around of the high level generals, and the public pressure on Olmert, it seems like this was just waffling on the part of the politicians. That said, it probably did help IDF get a good handle on enemy locations, and I do think they're going to clean house once they do begin.

Olmert may be a lousy general, but he's not stupid politically. An immediate renewed offensive, if successful, will save his office seat in the next election.

He's also smart enough to know that yesterday's outing of the airplane terror gang gives him more cachet with the world to put a full-court press on the Hezzies......and he's taking advantage of this (if he does, of course).

I don't know much about it, but doesn't the MOAB have a signficantly greater ability to bomb deeply-dug in troops? I'm all for routing the Islamofascists from off the face of the earth, but shouldn't every effort to reduce the loss of troops be utilized before sending them in.
To me, not doing this is on a par with all this UN nonsense about cease-fires, peaceful solutions, etc. It's taking the kinder, gentler road, when what is necessary to minimize the loss of life is to demonstrate to the enemy a clear, decisive willingness to rain more death on them than they could ever imagine (or be willing to endure).

The Olmert government has no stomach for an all-out campaign... they proved that in the past couple of weeks. This 'announcement'... smells of politics... and I'm sure it was issued to placate his critics in Israel.

Read your Sun Tzu.

Do you think Israel would ever allow PUBLIC arguments of their war policies, if not for a good reason?

"When strong, appear weak"

You've all been had. An ass-whooping is on the way.
