Love is a Battlefield
IDF soldier received heart shaped cookie somewhere near the Lebanon border...
South Beirut has been hit many times already. It's conceivable there might be a few low value targets remaining there, but nothing of significance.
We used to call this "bouncing the rubble" when I was in the Air Force. It's "sound and fury, signifying nothing".
Historians looking back on what looks like the last day of Israel's first lost war may consider it symbolic. Israeli war planes capable of bombing anywhere they please, unopposed, are ordered to bounce the rubble instead.
Prometheus in chains.
What I suspect is this: Israel doesn't want the cost both in $$ and in other ways of sustaining an occupation in Lebanon. The UN deal is them trying to get the international community foot the bill of getting them a safe zone.
That's what this war has been about from Israel's pov, especially with the parties in power, a way to get a cushion of safety for the north. If they succeed it will not be considered a loss...at worst, a draw.
I really don't think the peace parties in Israel have learned very much from this experience, though. What lessons the people on the street learn will take time to see.
You are wrong calling it a loss. It is not the victory YOU wanted. I know it's not the victory that Likud and the IDF wanted. It may be very much the victory Olmert wanted - Hezbollah hurt, other people there to be the buffer. If it ends today, it will go down not as a loss, but most likely as one of those never ending conflicts with an indeterminate outcome.
The State Dept..huh??
Boy, they sure know how to screw up a war...
Late to the party. Did Israel stop the pull out after the boat attack?
I thought it curious when I heard Israel was ordering cluster bombs - they would not for the type of war against Hezebola which is dug in. More for usage against large ground formations of infantry that Hezebola would not do.

I hear the French troops are providing the escargots and white flags...
Don't know yet...talky, talky, talky behind closed doors.
Tzachi Hanegbi, a senior member of Olmert's Kadima party, said that, if it was possible to remove Hizbollah from southern Lebanon through diplomacy, "obviously this is far preferable to a military clash with its heavy price in lives of fighters."
Where have these guys been since 1948??? You can't deal with hizbollah 'diplomatically'! Heaven't they learned anything???? I hope Israel's voters wake up and stop electing these peace at all cost cowards, they live in too rough a neighborhood to afford the luxury of pacifistic politicians. They need hawks! Where's the new Begin and Dayan and Sharon?
America needs to pay attention to this debacle that's about to unfold...this is what will happen to us when we're attacked next and we've got a Speaker Pelosi conferring with President Hillary about what we're going to ask the UN to do about it!
Once upon a time when I was in college, I dreamed of working for State. I'm glad I didn't go that route...
Unbelievable isn't it?
It may well be these were ordered just in case Iran/Syria decide to get involved. But- that's just speculation..
Yep... you're a psychic.
Oh, what about the soldiers?
Hezzies disarming?
Iran, Syria being held accountable for their actions?
Bolton should've flown those Iranian guard bodies over and identifying missle fragments and dumped them right in the middle of the Security Council... and bring Nicky Robinson and Tweety (Anderson) with him to tell what's going on. With some Hezbowood direction footage. Think it would make a difference? /s
I saw a segment on Nasrallah on Wednesday..can't tell you what station...that said that he got his "FAME" by "running the Israelis out of Lebanon" in 2000.
Therefore, he HAS to win this war, or lose his position of power...and you know that in that culture, "saving face" is a hugh deal..and so, no resolution will be accepted that doesn't at least LOOK like Hezbollah, under Nasrallah's leadership has WON this war...
Just FYI..Nasrallah HAS to be hailed as running out the Jews yet again.
Did they! God I hope they don't pull out.
HAAAAAAHAHAaaaa! Well done!
But in the meantime..no confirmation of this anywhere..
I just cannot understand a whole department of US government that works so hard to screw it's own country.
LOLOL! That's a good one. You had me for half a second until......."Hey, I recognize those plumes of smoke!"
