In the generic, multiple launch rocket system, as posted by many others.

Used specifically, a US system with two six packs of rockets per launcher, reloadable in under two minutes, 644 fragmentary submunitions per rocket, range ~20 miles, OR two long range rockets good out to 120 miles with high accuracy.

The Iraqis called it "steel rain", and they didn't like it much.

Asking for restraint in the public area the minute a war starts is not the way to build public support for an ally PM. That is something we could have and should have done differently. Public statements matter just as much as any "behind the scenes" work, because they can directly impact the support for an operation. We knew full well that Olmert was not Bibi and that the things that influenced his decisions would be different than those that influenced Bibi. While Olmert does lack cajones, it's hard to blame him for wavering somewhat when his best ally is making public statements that are not in his favor. The liberal Israeli press picked up on that and spread it like wildfire to undermine the war effort. Hezbollah and the liberals won today.

Not to worry, I just heard AG on with Beck and he said nothing unusual to worry about on Aug. 22.

a couple of hezzie suicide bombs & watch them scatter in every direction, same as North Africa

I was listening to Mike McConnell (700 WLW in Cincinnati) today and he asserted that the way to stop the suicide bombers is to let the terrorists know that, if a suicide bomber blows up innocent people, the bomber's family would be killed. If the bomber were an orphan, a friend would be killed.

Further, he said that the policy should not be a "governmental policy" per se, but the word should be spread so that the suicide bombers were well aware of what would happen.

What do you guys think?

My spidey senses tell me we are witness to an amazing display meant to keep everyone guessing and off balance.

Sit back and learn from the grown-ups in this administration how to use the traitorous media to your advantage and play UN diplomats like pros.

I agree. All these twists and turns are just the surface of something bigger.

Support for Israel would have been to continue to veto any UN resolution that didn't involve destroying Hezbollah in its entirety.

I've heard reported that Israel wanted the U.S. to accept this resolution, not the other way around.

What ahppened in Lebanon doesn't effect Iran hitting Israel on Aug 22. If they want to hit them, they will. Israel's ballistic missile force is completely intact, their air force is completely intact, their subs are completely intact, the lebanon fight hasn't impacted Israel's ability to strike back at Iran one bit nor has it affecte dtheir ability to use AMB assets against Iranian missiles.

Who kows what Iran will do, but my point is that Israel is in the exact same position to deal with it on 8/22 as they were on 6/22, before this whole thing started

I guess the terrorists are just too powerful to defeat. I suppose we should start making friends with them so they don't get any madder at us. And Olmert should say "pretty please" can Israel have its soldiers back.

I wonder if this UN resolution will allow us to position our troops in Lebanon (under the UN banner). Then, when the hezbos attack again, we can help Israel clean up.

I know that. Chertoff knows that. My hubby said there's no way he's taking a plane on the 16th anywhere. He has to fly on the 13th, but its not out of a coastal airport.

Oh, and as for "it is Israel's war, not ours", tell that to the hundreds of marines and other Americans killed at the hands of Hezbollah.

Please, calm down. This is not our war.

We are not responsible for its planning or execution. Our soldiers are not in the fight. This is Israel's war.

The U.S. gave Israel's government the support and geopolitical cover to win it. Olmert, for reasons I do not know or understand, chose not to.

As soon as Hez rockets fall again, Israel will already be in lebanon to hit back. In the meantime, Israel will have had time to run its logistics train up to the front line. Hez will have had no chance to rearm. When Hez starts shooting again, the war continues with Israel having had a breather.

First, Israel will not alreadly be in Lebanon. U.N. forces and the Lebanese army will be in S. Lebanon. So, when Hezbollah once again starts throwing rockets into Israel, over the heads of the "peacekeeping forces", what is Israel going to do, hmmmmm? Plow through the peacekeepers on their way to stop Hezbollah hiding on the other side of those U.N. and Lebanese forces? Maybe bump off a few of them on their way to attack Hezbollah? Especially when the Lebanese and French will both secretly be supporting Hezbollah? The fox is in the chickencoop. This is all sickening.
