"WIRETAP
Talk about a slap in the face to the liberals!"
Waiting for an apology from New York Times. Still waiting. Holding my breath, turned blue, returned at the end of time, still waiting. Hell has frozen over. Ouch, another monkey flew out of my butt. Still waiting.

Why are so many pretending like the US had a big part in this investigation?

I'd like an opinion from someone who is an expert here on whether or not the volume of the explosive in the bottles could have taken out a passenger plane from a pack in the overhead compartment. experts only reply pls or ridicule i'm up for both.

"I do believe - hard to think of anything scarier than reports of airliners disappearing over the Atlantic, 1 by 1 by 2 by 1... "
I disagree. It's just a matter of opinion. Planes exploding above cities would be worse. More death. Not just people on the plane. They LOVE murdering innocent people.

"I believe that as well. It's possible that they aren't telling us that (or they didn't know for sure) so as not to cause wide-spread panic."
Yeah ... they probably believe people couldn't handle it. There is really nothing you can do about it, as a civilian. More will come out later.

The plot also appears to be a return to older terrorist tactics of trying to blow up an airplane in mid air, rather than turn the jet into a missile as the Sept. 11 attackers did. Allen stressed that the plans seemed designed to kill passengers, not crash into a city on the ground. "We have no evidence there was targeting of cities," said Allen, "This was an effort to destroy multiple aircraft in flight not against any territory of the United States." Blow those planes up over any urban area and thousands more would perish!

"I disagree. They have attacked in different ways each time, and they attack our economy. Most of all, they want to be effective, and since 9-11, everyone on every hijacked plane would know what was in store and they would try to take back the plane.
Much better would be to have a successful attack which would signal to all foreigners hoping to come to the US on vacation and spend $$$ that they could be next--something even this failure will accomplish."
I don't think they care about tourism. I find it curious that our major cities are all on high alert - NYC, DC, LAX. They like symbolism. These cities are meaningful to them; not an ocean.
I'd like to believe that passengers could be depended on to take back the plane but I don't think that is something you can count on or the success of it.

It simply doesn't make sense - the ocean!
Gimme a break!
Trashing a city with airplane debris, killing MORE people, MORE disruption and doing damage to our economy by hitting, say the financial district in LA, NYC or people who work FOR the government ... now that would make more sense than exploding in the ocean.

short answer, yes that much explosive could depressurize the plane at the least, with a large likelihood that the plane would be lost. Whether it would crack the plane in two is hard to tell, a Hawaiian airlines plane flew with a huge chunk of that area taken out, but it barely made it and was a fluke. No need to go further than this.

I've always thought that, periodically, we should "leak" that we have "covert agents" in deep cover with the terrorists...always keep them looking over their shoulder. NY Times wants to publish our "secrets" so badly...let them...but we might as well make it beneficial to us!

These clowns are paranoid anyway. May as well add to it by making them think that there are moles in their little cells.

I don't think they care about tourism. I find it curious that our major cities are all on high alert - NYC, DC, LAX. They like symbolism. These cities are meaningful to them; not an ocean. You're missing the point. Cities aren't meaningful to them--our economy is. Panic is. TERROR is. When you dismiss "tourism" so offhandedly you're ignoring the point--economics, psychological isolation. An ocean isn't meaningful to them, but planes, and the mentality of those who use them, are meaningful.
You seem to have forgotten this plan was on its way--with the planes exploding over the ocean--back in the late 90's.
I'd like to believe that passengers could be depended on to take back the plane but I don't think that is something you can count on or the success of it.
When did I say anything about it being counted on? Look at 9-11--indeed, once passengers knew what was up on United 93, they took action. Since then there have been numerous incidents--including the successful foiling of the shoe bomber--where passengers fought back, because they knew what was going to happen--not hijacking, but destruction.

This is not surprising.....in the least. They love those planes...since they're nothing more than a nat on the wall...only big impact would be on one of our airliners.
All pilots need to carry side firearms for all to see!!! The airlines need to provide the very best for all pilots.

Exactly! Just like the CIA guys who used to wander around Moscow leaving suspicious (but totally meaningless) signals like tape on a mailbox...drove the KGB nuts!
NEVER pass up a chance to screw with the enemy.
