CARACAS: President Hugo Chavez said late Tuesday he wants to break Venezuelas diplomatic ties to Israel, blasting the Jewish states attacks against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
In a speech broadcast on state television, Chavez said it was for sure that Venezuela was severing relations with Israel following two days of diplomatic tit-for-tat embassy withdrawals. They also withdrew their ambassador and what is for sure is that we are breaking diplomatic relations, he said.
I have no interest in maintaining diplomatic relations, nor an office, nor trade nor anything with a state like Israel.
Israel withdrew its ambassador to Venezuela on Monday over Chavezs opposition to the Israeli attacks against the Shia militia Hezbollah, based in southern Lebanon.
More than 1,000 people, mostly civilians in Lebanon, have been killed since the fighting began on July 12 after two Israeli soldiers were kidnapped by Hezbollah in a cross-border raid.
Chavez had announced Sunday that Venezuela had pulled its charge daffaires from Israel to protest the offensive in Lebanon, saying Israel had lost its mind.
In his television appearance Tuesday, during which he relaunched a 110-million-dollar programme to assist 200,000 mothers, Chavez said: You see what Israel is doing: bombing cities, finishing off the entire country, it doesnt matter that there are children, women, dead mothers embracing their children.
The Venezuelan recently visited Iran, which supports Hezbollah, where he accused Israel of terrorism and pure fascism and received a warm welcome from anti-American President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has previously called for Israel to be wiped off the map. afp
Lucky Israelis.
If you have read Freeper Jeff Head's fiction series "Dragon's Fury," this is looking more and more like the scenario he laid out, except he had Brazil as joining the Axis of Evil. But Venezuela works, too.
Venezuela has ties with Israel?
Thug tyrant Chavez' main ally in the USA, the democrat party, is also busy cutting all ties with Israel.
Ask poor Joe Lieberman, subject to vicious racial slurs by the MoveOn.org, Daily Kos, DU cadres. These same anti-semitic destroyed Lieberman's internal communications in the critical 3 days prior to the election, hacking and shutting down his e-mail and website.
I bet the Israelis will cry all night after hearing this/SAR
For the life of me I can't figure out why everyone seems to hate Israel. I'm 40 years old and still can't get my head around this emotion. What exactly is Vthe gripe with Israel. Perhaps we should start lobbing rockets into his country, kidnap a few soldiers, and daily rant about his country doesn't deserve to exist. I just wonder how he might react.
bttt
Most likely. After all, Venezuela has only changed under Chavez. Most of my friends there hate the man. They have invited me to visit them. Though I dont tell them this... I refuse. I refuse to support a man like Chavez with my money.
Yes, a few player changes, but basically the same script.
Brazil was actually one of the good guys after the space station was taken out by the Chinese .... it wiped out one of their cities and they immediately joined with the US.
Exactly the question I would have asked.
How much business would Israeli HAVE with Venezuela, anyway? They are geographically remote from each other, neither has products the other would want, that they could not get more cheaply and easily with other trading partners closer by, and there are few cultural ties between the two countries in any event.
Maybe there is a small Jewish community in Caracas, but for sure, thee would be very few if any Venezuelans in Tel Aviv.
I agree with your general curiosity regarding the hatred of Israel. From an adult standpoint, it seems childish. But, it is their "peaceful" religion that drives them.
While I lack any Biblical sophistication, it does seem to fulfill at an easily understood level that the majority of the world would line up against Israel. Many out of their own religious hatred. Some out of their fear of Islamic retaliation. Others for purely economic reasons (oil).
The difficult question that even those "on our side" must ultimately confront is "Is Islam really a religion of peace?" I regretfully believe that it is not. That has dramatic implications for the future of us all.
Lastly, I hope that a much larger percentage than ever before of American Jews realize who their real friends are. They may disagree with conservatives on many domestic issues, but more and more of them must reach the same conclusion reached by Ed Koch and Joe Lieberman.
Brazil and Columbia become our principle allies in South America in what turns into a very hard a terrible fight.
Ok, Argentina. Get my Latinos mixed up.
Yep. Already corrected. Sorry, I get my Latinos mixed up in the future.
