NY TIMES NUMBER IN NEW YORK: 212-556-1234
I dialed the above number and went through the menu button pushing to get the international desk. I had a question for the NEW YORK TIMES that I thought was reasonable.
LADY AT NEWS DESK: Hello, news desk
DFU: Hello, I was inquiring so I could write a piece on FreeRepublic. Are you guys unhappy that you didn't get the information in time to be able to run a story and warn the airplane bomb plot terrorists that they were about to be arrested?
LADY AT NEWS DESK: What kind of question is that. (CLICK).
Had she given me the time, I would have been able to explain why it was a perfectly logical question.

Excellent Doug. The answer is undoubtedly yes, they are very unhappy.

LOL.
You'd think by now they'd realize that refusing to answer you is going to look worse for them in the long run...

It was a good question. Weren't the NYT concerned that the British MI5 was invading the privacy of British subjects of Pakistani extraction?

Oh... and since the news desk hung up on you, send the question (and a complaint) to the public editor / ombudsman.
