U.S. Signs Defense Agreements With Poland, Czech Republic
August 9, 2006 10:30 p.m. EST
Matthew Borghese - All Headline News Staff Writer Washington, D.C. (AHN) - The U.S. has signed defense agreements with both Poland and the Czech Republic, in an effort to expand American anti-missile bases.
The U.S. is looking for allies to help create a missile shield to stop incoming ballistic missiles from countries like Iran and North Korea.
However, some nations which are not in the shield say the idea will only lead to another arms race. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov says, "These plans have disturbed us very much."
Russian chief of staff Yuri Baluyeski adds that an effective missile defense shield to stop Iranian missiles would need to be based in Greece, and the Czech and Polish positions are aimed at stopping a possible Russian attack.
However, Czech Foreign Minister Cyril Svoboda says, "The democratic world has the right to a defense system against a possible aggressor, and Europe will be safe only in the case of close cooperation with Washington. This is reality and not some naive pro-Americanism."
Of course they do. When Reagan announced the concept of SDI back in the 80s, the Sovs soiled their pants. They knew, given time, we could actually pull it off.
However, an effective missile defense shield for Europe, being based in central Europe, is positioned in a BETTER position to stop all missiles coming from all directions.
I'll bet you're going to say, that this is another example of Poland's "treating Russia like dirt" and "kicking the bear" in something.
How even dare those bloody, impudent Poles to try preventing a possible Russian attack!!! (sarcasm)
However, some nations which are not in the shield say the idea will only lead to another arms race. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov says, "These plans have disturbed us very much."
Nice they are so predictable.
I was very careful to make certain mentioning both are to blame for the breakdown in their relationship. For once try to look and see where Poland is to blame instead of yelling and screaming at the Russians. Do that, and you might help fix the problem.
Excellent. Two great countries.
Well let's hope these defense agreements are a little more effective than the ones the Poles and Czechs had in the 1930s.
"However, some nations which are not in the shield say the idea will only lead to another arms race."
I think they were with France and England.
Imagine Poland treating Russia like dirt!
No, with France and England.
In these two countries that recently suffered cruel Russian occupation, squeals of opposition from the Russians are a political plus.
Ah, impudence in the name of Freedom! It's like American football on a Sunday afternoon.
