Washington Whispers: GOP voters: like a rock
U.S. News ^ | August 9, 2006 | Paul Bedard

Posted on 08/10/2006 9:48:23 AM PDT by new yorker 77

Many Democrats may hate the war in Iraq and itch to dump the president, but a new GOP survey shows that Republican base voters stand ready to jam the November polls to return their team to Congress. A three-page-survey memo obtained by Washington Whispers reveals that despite reports of some dissatisfaction with the economy, the war, and President Bush, 81 percent of Republican voters are "almost certain" to vote and an additional 14 percent say they are "very likely." It goes without saying that they'll vote Republican: By a margin of 84 percent to 6 percent, they will pull the GOP toggle switch in the voting booth. And here is something you don't hear very often: 88 percent of Republicans approve of how the prez is handling his job. What's it all mean? Analysts say that GOP voters are ready to dig in and play defense against the charges Democrats are tossing at Republican candidates.

The memo also helps to define what issues work for Republican candidates. The survey--officially tilted "Base Mobilization Survey Finds and Conclusions"--divided the issues into foreign and domestic. On the foreign side, it's all terrorism and war with polling that finds GOP voters back the war, worry about Democratic attacks on the fight against terrorism, and think the Patriot Act, moves to tighten the border, and even telephone surveillance are good things. And their favorite domestic issues aren't a surprise: They are pro-tax cuts, big on cultural values, and worried that Democrats want to put too much bureaucracy in healthcare. Another nonshocker: They don't like the media's war stories, thinking that they are too negative. Some 60 percent of the GOP base expresses "extremely high dissatisfaction" with the coverage of the war.

LOL

"I'm staying out of this one . . . "

Except for all of the insults and cheap shots.

Lady, please have the courtesy -- and integrity -- to abide by your word. You said that you weren't going to address me further. So don't.

Or are you, like your buddy Robertson, trying to goad me into a nasty response?

That wouldn't surprise me.

Although you seem to agree with most of what I said, you seem to miss the point of my question about the Club.

It's not about the need for money. It's about their standards for endorsements. If he was a fiscal conservative, it seems the Club would support him since he is in his toughest race ever. But with his record of bringing home the pork, they cannot because it could destroy their credibility.

Santorum is my priority because he is my senator and he betrayed his trust for the sleasiest of reasons -- to advance himself within the party. Trust, once lost, is not easily regained. He has shown no signs of remorse or any willingness to reverse course. He has Beltway Fever and will never again get my vote.

If he wins reelection, he will feel like he can do anything and still win again. So will the others around him. He is the bad apple that has the potential of ruining the whole barrel.

Besides, when he supports bad legislation -- minimum wage, higher SS taxes, LOST, gun locks, etc -- he gives the Dems political cover for those same things.

Every decision that a pol makes brings with it consequences for the vote. Santorum has made many conscious decisions to vote against liberty and fiscal responsibility and he must now pay the piper.

"I think I'm staying out of this one."

Priceless.
And then you go on to kick his ass six ways to Sunday.

Did you see his response to me? As usual, he comes back with "the record," never addressing anything I said. He always thinks he's "got" me when I don't respond to his arguments about things I never brought up. Freaking delusional.

Badray, if you're listening (and what else do you have to do but monitor your "enemies"), I meant what I said about the Mod. As for your suggestion that I proactively write an "opus" and quit FR--over you? You must be kidding. You're a fully consumed fool who thinks he's smarter than all the other guys...in other words, quite dangerous. But also quite pathetic. If I quit this forum it will be over an issue of principle, not one of pity.

LOL! I don't know Mr. Robertson. And I'm not trying to 'goad' you into anything.

You're not that big of a deal.......

But I do find it more than humorous that you, of all people, would lecture me on 'integrity.'

You're a blank page in that department, sweetray.

If you don't mind, John, I'd rather not have any more to do with Badray.

He has shown me quite enough of his 'character' to want to ever see it again. (Whew! He's an ugly one....)

Thanks for the ping, but I really do want to get as far away from this exemplary 'conservative' as I can.

I'm actually working to improve the country by electing the most conservative candidates out there. Unlike Ray, I don't just talk on an internet forum and bash conservative activists.

I AM a conservative activist.

Carry on..........you're more than capable of handling him on your own. :)

You just can't resist the insults, can you?

Some Christian you are, not that I'm judging, mind you, just observing.

Besides, if you knew me, you'd love me.

What you don't understand, not being a Christian yourself, is that I DO love you. That's why I put you in your place when you're so far out of line.

But I don't LIKE you a single bit, though, because you're a nasty, insulting whiner who is fighting against conservatism with your words.

You break a person's arm with your insults......say all kinds of despicable, humiliating things to them....... and then whine when they give you a little bruise in return.

Upthread I posted a list of the awful things you said about me, but you apparently didn't learn a thing from seeing your deeply personal slams all in one place.

And it seems quite certain to me that you never will. Maybe if you'd control yourself and your biting sarcasm (which, as you have seen, I am capable of throwing back at you), we could fight together on the SAME SIDE of what is right instead of your making enemies of other conservatives.

It's abundantly clear that your goal is to tear apart those of us who share your values but don't dot every 'i' the way YOU want us to, and in the end, to hurt the cause of conservatism.

That makes you a thorn in the side of those of us on this forum who really DO want to move the country to the right........toward conservative goals.

And that puts you on the side of the leftists who want to destroy America, whether you ever admit it or not.

Fight WITH us against the anti-American left, and quit wasting your time and ours attacking those of us who want what's best for America by getting the most conservative people we can get in office......whether they're 'perfectly conservative' or not.

This post may not have any effect on you personally...........I don't know how far down in the pit you really are.........but perhaps it will make sense to some lurking who are tempted to join you in the mud slinging, anti-conservative "I'm more pure that you are" garbage that goes on on this forum.

Perhaps someone lurking will understand that people like you, who fight conservatives who aren't 'good' enough, are actually fighting ALL conservatives, and working on the side of the anti-American left.

Maybe you'll never see the harm you are doing, Badray.........but maybe others will, and we can move this country to the right by ignoring people like you, and banding together in working for conservative goals, and conservative candidates, and help return this country to the values and principles of our Founding Fathers.

Why don't you stop fighting the good guys here, and help us do just that?

Just for the record (again).......John, take a look at this compilation of deeply personal, cutting insults that Badray leveled at me on this thread alone.....

"Lacking in intellect or honesty"
Possessing a "pyschology degree from Holiday Inn Express"
That I "respect too easily"
That I only "proclaim that I am a moral conservative"
That I am "despicable"
That my claim to be a moral conservative is "pathetic"
That I "don't have the positions of moral conservatism"
That I would vote for a "pro-abortion, gun-grabbing, open border" Republican (THAT ONE IS HILARIOUS!!)
That I have "sold my soul"
That I put "party over principle."
That I am "lying to myself"
That I am "delusional" and "self-delusional"
That I am "a piece of work"
That I was part of a "vicious pack of dogs"
And that I had "flexible standards."

And then keep in mind that he is here whining about MY 'insults.'

(And note that I never once posted abuse for any of the horrific things he said about me).

It's pretty revealing, eh?

Badray is a phony through and through. We will both be better off if we don't fall into his trap again and pay one bit of attention to him.

There's no point in trying to discuss politics or anything for that matter with somebody like him. It would be best if every reasoned conservative on this forum would completely ignore him as the anti-conservative that he is.....

So you insult me and it's 'to correct me'. But when I do it, it's a horrible attack. Do I have that right?

And I am not whining. I am just pointing out your hypocrisy. I guess that you will have to add that to your list now.

Since when did Jesus tell you that you could judge other Christians on their faith? That's not the gospel that I was raised on. I know that I am not a perfect Christian, not do I claim to be.

I am not your kind of perfect conservative either, but that is because I won't support those who don't grasp the basics of conservatism or basic economics.

RINOs are not working to advance smaller government or lower taxes and I refuse to support them. Their support for more government and more taxes and less liberty do more damage to this Republic and to conservatism than do the Democrats. People resist the garbage that the dems spew, but gladly swallow it whole when it comes from the GOP. I won't.

I am on the right and I am a thorn in the side of those who will accept the slow drift to the left because it still is towards the left even if it's at a slower rate. If the GOP values their hold on power and want to hold onto their seats, they will have to move rightward in meaningful ways.

When children are bad do you reward them or do you punish them? Our GOP 'children' have been bad. They won't learn anything if they get a reward when they deserve punishment.
They care about their seats, not our principles. If we vote them back in it will only serve to reinforce in their minds that they can do what they want without fear of it being held against them.

For them to say (or intimate) that we have to vote for them because the other guy will be worse is blackmail and extortion that I will not pay.

Your mileage obviously varies.

Mow join me in fighting the perversion and subversion of conservative values. Please.

MSM is never right anymore, as they don't report the truth. The Dems will not take the House or the Senate. The Dems must be portrayed as the party of obstruction. ie judges, drilling, partial birth abortion, anti guns, cut& run, can't handle the terrorists or security. Get out and vote and we'll prove MSM wrong again.

Dude, your "tuition" is way too expensive and your "intuition" is nowhere to be seen.

Agree!!!! his post accepts defeat to easily as if a defeat would do no harm and just shore up 2008 for us. 2 years is more than long enough for us to witness the destruction of the west. Just as we can not fail in Iraq, we can not fail in 2006 either. A vote for a democrat for any reason is a vote for terror, U.N influence, World Court influence, a liberal supreme court making new laws, Harry Reid, Boxer, Kennedy, Pelosi, Schumer, Frank, Kerry et al making decisions affecting life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all Americans and a host of terrifying issues among other things. Taxes would increase and impeachment cries would be the focus. Dems would move to give the war on terror to lawyers and the courts and we'd see a movement to export American court oversite right to the battlefield where every decision involving tactics and long range strategy would have to be cleared through one court or another. Dems would move to strengthen laws against war and would cooperate with the EU and others allowing them to prosecute our military and political leaders involved in all decisions regarding war. One civilian death would spark an automatic claim of war crime. Our military would become fearful of any operation that might harm civilians and in a short time we'd see a do nothing military to affraid of prosecution to fullfil their duties.

We'd become more like most members of the EU, taking the attitude that terrorists can be negotiated with and we'd insist on endless talks even while being murdered in mass while talking to them, insisting that there is always hope as long as one can talk.

Toward the end of the two years our country would be stripped of any and all incentives to do the right thing or to challenge monsters out to end civilization. Anyone with a backbone or the means to challenge terror would be prosecuted and jailed as war mongers harming our national interests (dem interests) and those of us who object would be ridiculed and scorned not to mention beatings and death.

So, the quote "even if they win" is not acceptable. They can't win. Our very survival is at stake.

The Left could do much more damage to this country in the long-run than the Islamofacists.

Exactly!!!!!

What's at stake in 2006 or 2008 and beyond is not just a matter of who wins by how much and why. What's at stake are issues involving our very survival as a nation.

Those who would stay home and not vote because a single issue that is not life threatening or who think that staying home will punish the GOP will possibly be responsible for the death of the civilization. Think about it folks. We're talking life or death not petty politics.

I have a bunch of liberal friends and a few conservative friends. I am constantly winning lib vs conservative arguments with them but since they're libs, it just doesn't sink in.

My lib friends are very excited about the fact that we Republicans are going to get booted out in November. I asked each and every one of them if they will vote. All of them said no, they never vote.

My Republican friends ALL vote. I think we'll be just fine in November.

You whine with the best of them Badray. Your insults are severe and ugly, and you refuse to even acknowledge them at any level, and yet you continue to gripe and whine like a baby about me. You are like a playground bully who can attack all the other kids, but cries crocodile tears if they respond in like kind.

So, it's in my best interest as a follower of Christ to not respond to you again. I have failed miserably in trying to do so before, but this time I will be in prayer that I not get sucked into your game any further.

Please forgive me where I have sinned against you, and please join us in fighting liberalism, and not each other.

Please join the side of conservatism that doesn't attack its own and seeks to do what is best for this nation.........that is, to make it a more conservative, Constitution honoring place with values that are consistent with God's law, and the law of this land.

As long as you continue to attack us as you do incessantly........that is assault viciously the many good conservatives on this forum........ you work against us, and harm the conservative cause.

Demanding perfection of everyone you support means that you support no one. And in supporting no one on the conservative side, you support the left. And in supporting the left, you work toward the destruction of everything we hold dear.

You are obviously free to make that choice...........but just know that when you attack people like me (and others who share my strong conservative values), you are attacking conservative political activists who want to make a difference.

If you're fine with that (as you obviously are), more power to you. Just don't expect me to respond.......and don't expect the decent people on this forum to agree with your methods of attack.

FR is a place for honest debate among decent people...........and nothing you have revealed about yourself indicates any decency in you.

Good bye, Badray. May the peace of Christ be with you.

I'll remember you as the cheerleader for the pubbies that you think are the best that we can expect.

Think of me as the mean teacher who tells you that you can do better and gives you more homework or as that tough drill sargeant who drives you beyond what you thought you were capable of.

Discipline and accountabilty makes people better, not worse. I just want to hold our pols to account and that includes bouncing those who refuse to improve and if you don't demand improvement, you won't get it.
