Many Democrats may hate the war in Iraq and itch to dump the president, but a new GOP survey shows that Republican base voters stand ready to jam the November polls to return their team to Congress. A three-page-survey memo obtained by Washington Whispers reveals that despite reports of some dissatisfaction with the economy, the war, and President Bush, 81 percent of Republican voters are "almost certain" to vote and an additional 14 percent say they are "very likely." It goes without saying that they'll vote Republican: By a margin of 84 percent to 6 percent, they will pull the GOP toggle switch in the voting booth. And here is something you don't hear very often: 88 percent of Republicans approve of how the prez is handling his job. What's it all mean? Analysts say that GOP voters are ready to dig in and play defense against the charges Democrats are tossing at Republican candidates.
The memo also helps to define what issues work for Republican candidates. The survey--officially tilted "Base Mobilization Survey Finds and Conclusions"--divided the issues into foreign and domestic. On the foreign side, it's all terrorism and war with polling that finds GOP voters back the war, worry about Democratic attacks on the fight against terrorism, and think the Patriot Act, moves to tighten the border, and even telephone surveillance are good things. And their favorite domestic issues aren't a surprise: They are pro-tax cuts, big on cultural values, and worried that Democrats want to put too much bureaucracy in healthcare. Another nonshocker: They don't like the media's war stories, thinking that they are too negative. Some 60 percent of the GOP base expresses "extremely high dissatisfaction" with the coverage of the war.
Condi Rice has been over there for weeks "engaging" the enemy. Our new allies in Iraq are supporters of Hezbollah. Not much better than what the Dims have to offer, if you ask me. What you should be afraid of is a continuation of the status quo in the Republican party.
More and more, conservatives and Republicans are mutually exclusive groups.
Utter tripe; people on this site are conservatives AND Republicans.
I'm a REAL conservative
ROFLMAO....if you have to SAY you are, you probably aren't.
and the Republican party has left people like me behind.
No conservative who cares about this country would EVER turn it over to the liberals, I don't care HOW you dress it up.
I not only will be voting Republican I will also be there as an election judge challenging inappropriate voters. In the primary, there were lots of Rats bringing in their adult children claiming they still lived at home. I knew for a fact that several of them had been on their own for years. They were trying to vote twice-in their present wards and also in their family home ward because they were never removed from the books as voters.
Me thinks beeler came over from moveon pretending to be a conservative. I sometimes do the same thing at moveon.
Conservative who won't vote for someone who would vote their way 80% of the time but draws the line on a single issue (immigration) = Unappeasable.
That's exactly what happened.
Many sought to teach Bush I and the Republicans a lesson. Many stayed home. Many got snookered by Ross - I'm all ears - Perot and voted down that rabbit hole. We got Bill Clinton as the payoff. China got their much needed technology, North Korea got their nuclear plants and then bombs, and Iran got much of their nuclear bomb technology from N. Korea. Iran now threatens the whole world.
Oh yeah, let's teach those Republicans a lesson again!
Idiots.
Yeah, I like Buchanan...and Reagan and Goldwater. Of course, there's not really any politican who I support 100% of what they have to say.
You live in North Carolina; and you do NOT speak for ANY of the conservatives OR Republicans in this state.
What you are saying is that the end justified the means.
If having Bill Clinton as president was the price we had to pay for the 1994 Congress, then I would say we paid way too much.
Although Clinton was a factor, I tend to believe the "Contract With America" was a bigger factor.
What's the difference between supporting a Leftist Democrat and a Leftist Republican? We could better support the conservative movement by non-democratic means, if those are the choices we're left with.
How about putting the central issue of our time in the truest, most stark, blunt terms:
DEMOCRATS WILL CAPITULATE TO ISLAMOFACISM. They are just itching to do so.
A lot of other issues matter, but NONE more so than this.
Best news I've gotten in awhile.
THANKS FOR THE POST.
I think you nailed it.
Agreed.
You need to go to the fridge and check that "Kool-Aid". Sounds like moveon.org has prepared it for your consumption.
FGS, you're more afraid of the GOP than you are of the Democrats?
You're a Patsy, all right.
So true.
