Washington Whispers: GOP voters: like a rock
U.S. News ^ | August 9, 2006 | Paul Bedard

Many Democrats may hate the war in Iraq and itch to dump the president, but a new GOP survey shows that Republican base voters stand ready to jam the November polls to return their team to Congress. A three-page-survey memo obtained by Washington Whispers reveals that despite reports of some dissatisfaction with the economy, the war, and President Bush, 81 percent of Republican voters are "almost certain" to vote and an additional 14 percent say they are "very likely." It goes without saying that they'll vote Republican: By a margin of 84 percent to 6 percent, they will pull the GOP toggle switch in the voting booth. And here is something you don't hear very often: 88 percent of Republicans approve of how the prez is handling his job. What's it all mean? Analysts say that GOP voters are ready to dig in and play defense against the charges Democrats are tossing at Republican candidates.

The memo also helps to define what issues work for Republican candidates. The survey--officially tilted "Base Mobilization Survey Finds and Conclusions"--divided the issues into foreign and domestic. On the foreign side, it's all terrorism and war with polling that finds GOP voters back the war, worry about Democratic attacks on the fight against terrorism, and think the Patriot Act, moves to tighten the border, and even telephone surveillance are good things. And their favorite domestic issues aren't a surprise: They are pro-tax cuts, big on cultural values, and worried that Democrats want to put too much bureaucracy in healthcare. Another nonshocker: They don't like the media's war stories, thinking that they are too negative. Some 60 percent of the GOP base expresses "extremely high dissatisfaction" with the coverage of the war.

Gracious, all the Bush bashing you do is amazing.

His agenda started showing through even before he ran out of talking points.

I don't think voting for open-border, close down gitmo Republicans would help America. And I do believe the worse it gets, the more people will wake up. That's a good thing.

Yeah, but I'm from Texas.

I wish you hadn't said that. I have friends that live there.

Yeah, I think we could survive even that

So you think we can survive a republican control .. but think we should let the socialist dems have it

You REALLY need to brush up on your debate skills

Oh .. and about those americans who should not be allowed to vote .. who actually would they be??

I'm not an elite and I think I should be able to vote. I know lots of non-elites who should be able to vote. I don't think that those dependent on government should be allowed to vote, as it would be too easy for them to vote themselves a "pay raise." Which is pretty much the status quo.

If you were a liberal and you wanted to get on this forum and hassle people, how would you do it?

Like a "wolf in sheep's clothing" we have a (closet) leftist in conservative clothing and that's how this came about.

Have you decided which of us should be allowed to reproduce or will we have to wait for your next profound edict?

**I don't think that those dependent on government should be allowed to vote**

You're not being specific on this point. Should social security recipients vote? Welfare moms? Disabled vets? I look forward to your answer.

I have a problem paying for you. You should have saved more if you can't take care of yourself in your old age

Believe me when I tell you I've paid more income tax that you ever will.

And I'll bet some of us are paying for you and your wife's college loans.

Yeah, and RINOs in the senate will make sure nothing from that bill makes it into the compromise. I fully support Tancredo and other anti-illegal immigration Republicans in the house, I'm just pissed that the Republicans in control pan them at every turn.

Your problem is Tancredo told the house that the people that feel like you are a majority. That was the story your side told when it got the house to pass its bill.

The problem is that is a lie. Tancredo has fewer followers than skunk with diahrrea. The house found that out and so you can't get anything passed. Before its over you may need amnesty.

Tancredo needs to learn the first rule of politics.... you can lie to voters but never lie to fellow members of your party in congress.

All the studies show that illegal immigration has all the appeal of last years big issue.
You remember what that was don't you...

OUT SOURCING

How did I imply that NC was representative of all the South? I'm a southerner, born and raised in TX. Traditionally, the conservative south plays a large role in presidential elections. Y'all can't win without us. NC tends to vote Republican in national elections, but the good ole boy Democrat network still essentially runs state politics. They're mostly liberal to leftist and sadly they still receive a lot of support from "yellow-dog democrats" who are essentially conservative on issues but tend to vote democrat, regardless of the issues, because my daddy and his daddy always voted democrat. This trend has largely changed in the rest of the south but NC seems to be dragging along. That's essentially the point I was trying to make. Feel free to ask for any clarifications.

He relishes his "victory" of having me being given a timeout last year. I had to eat lunch anyway so it was no hardship.

Since then anything I respond to one of his stupidities he has a hissy fit.

I think you're assuming a lot about his education...but then, again, the state of education in our universities is pathetic, so I could easily be wrong about it.
