Washington Whispers: GOP voters: like a rock
U.S. News ^ | August 9, 2006 | Paul Bedard

Posted on 08/10/2006 9:48:23 AM PDT by new yorker 77

Many Democrats may hate the war in Iraq and itch to dump the president, but a new GOP survey shows that Republican base voters stand ready to jam the November polls to return their team to Congress. A three-page-survey memo obtained by Washington Whispers reveals that despite reports of some dissatisfaction with the economy, the war, and President Bush, 81 percent of Republican voters are "almost certain" to vote and an additional 14 percent say they are "very likely." It goes without saying that they'll vote Republican: By a margin of 84 percent to 6 percent, they will pull the GOP toggle switch in the voting booth. And here is something you don't hear very often: 88 percent of Republicans approve of how the prez is handling his job. What's it all mean? Analysts say that GOP voters are ready to dig in and play defense against the charges Democrats are tossing at Republican candidates.

The memo also helps to define what issues work for Republican candidates. The survey--officially tilted "Base Mobilization Survey Finds and Conclusions"--divided the issues into foreign and domestic. On the foreign side, it's all terrorism and war with polling that finds GOP voters back the war, worry about Democratic attacks on the fight against terrorism, and think the Patriot Act, moves to tighten the border, and even telephone surveillance are good things. And their favorite domestic issues aren't a surprise: They are pro-tax cuts, big on cultural values, and worried that Democrats want to put too much bureaucracy in healthcare. Another nonshocker: They don't like the media's war stories, thinking that they are too negative. Some 60 percent of the GOP base expresses "extremely high dissatisfaction" with the coverage of the war.

That's quite a stretch.

Coming from you (and your Spandex comments), that's quite an honor.

The founders never intended for everyone to vote. In fact, they knew that a direct democracy, such as the one we currently have, would result in the masses voting themselves the contents of the treasury.

It's dems who don't trust the people -- they always feel only the elites should vote - and their victim groups (useful idiots).

Are you really buying into totalitarian bullshi_? Since the beginning of time there have been countries where elites rule - it's the norm. It's still the norm today.

Look at the ME... all elites ruling - and they stack the deck for themselves. What a surprise.

You want us to go backward to that kind of crap? Tell me some great place where the elites have done a good job -- and exclude the kings and queens - "by birth" isn't the same as powerful control freak elites manipulating to lord their power over us... We all know that!

This is the most fun troll we've had in a while.

What's neat is that he seems oblivious to the fact that he just keeps digging in deeper and giving away more of his real agenda.

So North Carolina, as a whole, is representative of all of the South?

I never said that, though you did imply it...

To: Warren_Piece

No, I live in the red-blooded, conservative, traditional values Southern heartland, and assuming you're a Yankee, y'all can't win without us.

Of course that was before you said NC couldn't be included

To: Howlin

NC is the weak link in the Southern US and is not necessarily indicative of the rest of the South. We have the highest taxes in the SE and are inundated with Yankees. You have to work hard to find conservatives, but they're still here. And then there's the yellow dogs, who have faded in much of the South, but still tend to be a majority here, at least on the local level. But even the yellow dogs tend to be conservative, if you pin them down on the issues.

Actually, I will vote for the incumbent representative and state senator, both of whom are Republicans. I'll probably won't vote in the state house election, even though the incumbent is a leftist Democrat. I know the Republican who's running against her and he is whishy-washy at best, and is more concerned with holding an office, any office, than with taking conservative principles to Raleigh. He's a complete pushover, refusing to take serious stands on serious issues, and this I know from speaking with him face to face. I would not, however, support Corker, and I would take serious issue with my state Republican party for not having done more to help the true conservative, Ed Bryant.

Well, look at it this way, mystery.

IF he's a 'confused young'n'.....chances are very good that he's been inculcated with leftist thinking and indoctrinated in leftist schools.

He admits to not paying attention before 9/11, which means he's coming at this whole thing in a complete vaccuum.

IF he's legitimate, then he should be reading, and absorbing, and learning, and not spouting nonsense that makes him sound like a complete fool.

I'm still going with seminar troll. I may be wrong about that, but that's still my take on it......ESPECIALLY with that last comment about the military. Straight out of the NY Times.

Good point, but Reagan's quote came from a time when Democrats controlled everything, save the White House. Now, Republicans own it all, and still can't get anything done. Doesn't that frustrate you to know end?

There are little to no differences. Amnesty is amnesty. Maybe it's effects will come to quicker fruition with the Dems plan, but that's a trifle difference in my opinion.

Yeah. Let the liberals have it because you have a bone to pick with a Republican. What a wonderful way of dealing with life. If you can't have it exactly your way, your going to take your ball and go home and pout (and post your whinings).

It's evidenced by your ferocious personal attacks on me for not supporting and being critical of Bush. Y'all can't handle it when someone points out all the leftist BS that he's allowed to happen.

Stop saying "can't get anything done". A good amount has been done. Don't lie. Plus, there's Republicans and then there are Republicans. It doesn't frustrate me to the point of committing suicide, something I could never, ever contemplate in real life or understand. If things are that bad, they can only get better so why end it all?

You mean there actually was one?

Me thinks that if you have to explain what your point was, you didn't really make one.
