Reid Statement on British Terror Plot

8/10/2006 11:54:00 AM

To: National Desk

Contact: Jim Manley or Rebecca Kirszner, 202-224-2939, both for Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid

WASHINGTON, Aug. 10 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid released the following statement on the British terror plot:

"I commend British authorities for defusing this terror plot and apprehending the suspects. Their actions protected the lives of innocent civilians, including many American citizens. Today's events are an important reminder that we need to renew our focus on the war on terror and to continue to work with our allies to protect Americans from terrorism.

"Terrorism remains the greatest threat to our security. As the five year anniversary of the September 11th attacks approaches, we should take this opportunity not just to remember, but to take stock of what progress has been made to protect Americans and what steps remain unfulfilled. As a result of mismanagement and the wrong funding priorities, we are not as safe as we should be and we still have not implemented the bipartisan 9-11 Commission's recommendations to secure our ports, airports, and chemical plants. The Iraq war has diverted our focus and more than $300 billion in resources from the war on terrorism and has created a rallying cry for international terrorists.

Harry al-Reid is just like the whining little brat in elementary school: It is ALWAYS the other kids fault ("He did it, he did it, not me"), they alwasy blame the other kid ("Johnny made me do it"), and when confronted they hide behind the teachers dress!

"and with the election of Ned Lamont, the DemoncRAT party stands ready to immediately surrender to these terrorists so that we don't have to endure these kinds of Bush-admin exaggerated threats any longer"

Besides, he amazingly undermines his point in the first half of his take home sentence. As the fifth anniversary of 9/11 approachs (note without a repeat),...the US has been totally screwing up.

If the US had messed up so badly we would not be approaching this anniversary as such. 9/11 would have simply been one of many in sequence.

Reid surfing the Dem Attention Deficit wave of serious news, got to spin the Religion of Peace."Be not afraid fellow dems, we will appease them into a group hug."

If Ned Lamont says anything negative it will label him weak on National Security and question his qualifications for higher office.

If these Democrats had a brain in their collective heads they would be praising the Administration for working so closely with British intelligence to uncover these terrorists plots. They would also praise the Administration for keeping America safe for the last five years. They could appear responsible and statesmanlike.

If they did that they could argue more persuasively and with much more credibility about their opposition to the war in Iraq, and then even promote some their other policies without looking like complete idiots. Alas, and thank goodness they are not very smart. They would rather lash out at the Administration and indulge in their hatred.

They look pathetic and dangerous when they try to demonize the President for keeping us safe for the last five years. They are full of sour grapes and that is not an appealing image. They will lose again in November and wonder why?

The Iraq war has diverted our focus and more than $300 billion in resources from the war on terrorism and has created a rallying cry for international terrorists.

Since when is the war in Iraq not part of the war on Terrorism? Actually, it should be the war on muslims, since they are the ones who are doing the terror. Terror is a tactic , and you can't wage war on a tactic!

The Brits are such wusses, not to take away from their accomplishment in stopping this event, that they can't call the people they arrested by their correct name:muslims. They are calling them Asians in order that they don't offend a certain community in England. When are they going to learn: The muslim community they are so anxious not to offend produced these terrorists!

Let's cut all social spending and put it into security.

Better yet, let's cut their salaries 90%, with a like reduction in their staff & remaining staff's salaries; reduce or eliminate their perks to those of ordinary workers; and abolish their per diem & expense accounts, and dedicate all of that to WOT.

Well, it isn't as if he were commenting on a REAL plot or threat; just ask his constituency:

Another Rove planted story?
The stories will keep on coming till Nov. elections...Republicans need to keep pushing fear and posing as our protecting hero's...that's what they are running on, the American people's fear, and the republicans are creating all of it...

9. Wasn't there security before this "foiled plot"?
Takes bombs to blow up stuff. Wonder if their plans were
as sophisticated as the "homegrown terrorists" in Miami.

11. so assuming this is real.......and keep in mind, I'm not saying it is real. Anyway, if it is a real threat, it's a little unclear how much of a threat it would have been.

I'm probably not saying this correctly but....it just seems to me that if a plane blows up over the atlantic ocean, yes it would be bad if all of the people on the plane died. But at least they would not be flying into buildings killing even more people!

Now, excuse me while I go take a shower to wash the stink & slime off from visiting over there.

"Asians" is a common term in the UK denoting individuals from south Asia. It is not conscious at all. Nothing to do with fear of offending Muslims. Its just a catch-all expression in the UK. No more, no less.

BS, perhaps you should go to here and read what they had to say. They are deliberately using the term asians to get around the M word. Period.

Wow, one of these guys just got thrown under the bus of the democrat party the other drives the bus. Is there any doubt about the democrats being soft on terror

Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn

Via AP: "This should serve as the latest, most serious evidence that we are in a war against a brutal enemy that intends to attack us over and over again in the most indiscriminate way."

Harry Reid, D- Nev

This latest plot demonstrates the need for the Bush administration and the Congress to change course in Iraq and ensure that we are taking all the steps necessary to protect Americans at home and across the world.”

So I get into the office, see this whole terrorism bust in the UK. First thing that went through my mind was "The Moonbats will blame Darth Rove and BushCo, the Dems will try to make political hay."

I am a tad surprised at how quickly both have happened.

They are calling them Asians in order that they don't offend a certain community in England.

We call all people from the Indian Subcontinent 'Asians', whether they're Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Muslim or Christian.

Could you tell this Reid bloke to STFU by the way? We're not interested in his opinion at all.

A plot that originated, and was uncovered, in the UK is the result of "mismanagement" and "wrong funding priorities" by the US?

Yes, appeasement will work much better.
