Indicators observed by independent Iran watchers during the past week are raising the question that nuclear-seeking Iran is not merely playing a serious game of brinkmanship, but is actually preparing to strike at Israel, European and US interests.
Headlined "Iran declares war," a May 11 editorial in the New York Sun expressed the belief that a recent letter written by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, which had been widely interpreted as a peaceful gesture, "is in fact a declaration of war."
According to the Sun, a coded message is contained in the closing section of the eight-page letter. While the rest of the message had been translated into English, the salutation in had not. It reads "Vasalam Ala Man Ataba'al hoda" and means "Peace only unto those who follow the true path."

Oh yeah, I recall a little device known as a neutron bomb, all we'll need to do is bury the bodies.
What dream world are you living in? Why the collective, "we?" The US will never nuke Iran, and "we" do not want to occupy the place, and who the hell do "we" want to bury Iranians?
No, I think it will be Ah-be-wearing-a-dinner-jacket's dead body, LOL!!
Some FReepers asked this same dopey question four years ago.
Unfortunately that would also be a optimal time for China to move against Taiwan as well.
If they put it on a drone, it won't make it to Tel Aviv.
I said that five minutes after W named them as one of the Axis of Evil. We have Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq. Iran is surrounded.
Bingo! It's been obvious to me ever since W mention Iran as one of the members of "the Axis of Evil." You don't have to be a Pentagon strategic planner to figure this one out in a heartbeat.
We're all speculating of course, but it seems pretty clear from everything Iran has said, that something horrific could happen on 8/22. Hezbollah threatened to bomb Tel Aviv if Israel bombed Beirut, so it seems Tel Aviv would be a prime target. Saddam's weapons are still out there somewhere as well.
Interesting.
I hope that the 10K+ IDF troops pushing into southern Lebanon have chemical and biological protective masks and suits. I can very easily foresee Syria supplying the Hezzies with Saddam's WMD.
Oh, was I talking to you?
The post I was replying to was about if Iran set off a nuke in the U.S.
Ever hear of the spoils of war?
It does not have to be nuclear.
The terrorists had good luck in Spain with the pre-election bombing. They could defeat us in our own elections by helping the democrats.
I mentioned that Iran, Iraq, Cuba, Libya, North Korea, Syria and Saudi Arabia had to go when the dust from the WTC bombing had not yet settled.
While your comments are logical, there is no way to predict what our response would be to another horrible calamity here. There are too many different terrorist acts to choose from, therefore it is impossible to predict just what our reaction would be. It could run the entire gamut from electing a pile of democrats, to defeating Syria and Iran, to our economic collapse and almost anything else, including glass parking lots.
It is morale building to talk tough, even though it may be unrealistic.
Why is August 22nd being discussed as a date?
8/22 is the date Iran gave the UN for when they would respond to the UN proposal concerning their nuclear ambitions. The date also corresponds to some historical date on the Islamic calendar.
I'm not so sure that Iran is the end of the threat.
Russia's behavior of late has been strange. I think the fall of the USSR was liberating, in a sense. They were literally collapsing under the weight of their own empire - the committment to its maintenance.
I'm not sure the Russians are convinced that they couldn't survive a nuclear or biochemical war.
As for the Chinese, that's a different story. They are a nation of people. The Russians aren't interested in controlling land with troops. They have oil and gas in abundance too. So why not knock the rest of the west back down to their level. If the US goes away, what interdependencies with the West and with the US are in jeopardy? With China, that answer is long and distinguished, but not with Russia.
Using Iran and Syria as proxies costs them very little, and if they back Iran in some whacked out strategic strike, again no real case has been made against the Russians. This isn't 1962, where we publicized the shipping of strategic nuclear missiles to Russia, and have pictures of Russian scientists setting them up.
This time all we have are Iranian troops, Iranian technicians, and Syrian intelligence helping the Hezbos. That the Russians are behind all of this, with the MSM openly complicit in helping out the enemy, you don't have the risks the Russians had in 1962.
I believe, though I have no proof, that its the Russians we've been dealing with the entire time.
Putin is a sharp cookie. Russia is far more capable on its own than when it had all of its unwilling, problematic satellite countries to attend to. They are way more focused than they ever have been.
Russia's still the real threat here. Iran and Syria are the patsies.
Correction: I'm not sure the Russians AREN'T convinced that they couldn't survive a nuclear or biochemical war.
Serves me right for using a double negative.
Retaliation on Iran doesn't have to be nuke
A few well placed fuel/air bombs would send the right message w/o disturbing the landscape.
If it manages to come that far, it will doubtless mean the demise of the U.N. itself.
