I fear this could be ready to happen very soon, and I can't see anything we can do to stop it. Possibly if we could be ruthless enough, but our leaders are not ready to do that.

History shows that democratic leaders are ruthless only with their own people.

Wow, what a great read. He seems to have sorted it all out and put the pieces in their proper place. He has put in writing the thoughts that have been swirling around in my head for several years now.

We're like the kids frolicking the swimmin' hole seeking relief from the season's heat and humidity in the waning days of their Summer Vacation. Distracted by the pleasure at hand, and not experienced enough to recognize danger as it approaches, they ignore the gathering clouds of a thunderstorm. Even the sound of not-too-distant thunder fails to raise their level of alarm. The lightning strike that kills or injures them is later described as "out of a clear blue sky" when the truth is there was plenty of notice, but went unheeded.

That's where the Western world is today. The signs are plentiful and quite evident. The enemy has told us what they have in store for us, even demonstrated their willingness to make it happen, yet we go along thinking if we can just "understand" them then we can work out a way for all of us "to just get along."

Face it, if our use of unbelievable violence to either destroy them or convince them that they can't accomplish their goals then the sooner we use it the better.

I expect we are approaching the point where the only solution is to destroy them. Unlike our last foes mutually assured destruction will not deter our current enemy. Quite the opposite, they would trigger MADD in a moment if they could. Their belief is that such an event would not only turn their enemy over to their god, but assure them of instant admission to their paradise. I wonder if the die has not been cast, the jig is up, etc.

A heavy and concise article.

I think many have viewed this new phase of the war, and the Western reaction to it with horror. For all our wizardry with weapons, we can't seem to muster the will or moral clarity to defeat a pitifully silly people who are so lacking in honor that they hide behind their women relying on our own decency to protect them.

We have faced this enemy before. The Japanese were equally fanatical (and much smarter). That war ended when every single Japanese tasted defeat and knew without a doubt that if they continued, we had the means and the will to completely annhialate them. Their emperor and the people chose life.

There is no single ruler who can declare a surrender. And the muslims themselves seem to prefer death. Yet I feel that if every single muslim was made to taste defeat, and they new that we had the means and the will to utterly destroy them, they would choose life as well.

Which therefore means that the true center of gravity in this war is the Western will to choose their destruction over ours. That question remains unanswered. I suspect again, that we will choose life.

The horrific events that are going to unfold are those that will force us to make our decision and those that will force them to make theirs. A lot of muslims are going to have to die before they are ready to choose life.

And sadly many more Americans are going to die before we also are ready to choose life.

Imagine if we, the remaining defenders of the West, decided to dismiss what we call "human rights ethics" and "common human compassion"? We can be fairly confident that if these broad and essential concepts ever influenced the thinking of the Wahhabists and Shiite jihadists that now plan the end of Western civilization, that they no longer do so. Can you imagine horrors our scientific military industrial complex might create?

Perhaps "Genetic defect bombs" could be developed that could "explode" unnoticed in the center of Jihadist population centers, rendering their future population severely mentally retarded in one generation. An entire nation, society, or geographic region could be immobilized and made helpless, via the realities of mental deficiency.

Maybe space based weapons that could remotely and automatically destroy any kind or class of target, any thing that could be seen with satellite or radar imaging... which means anything above ground, programed into an Artificial intelligent system that Command Central deemed a threat, over continental sized regions, 24 hours a day, year after year?

Or... true and irreversible economic warfare, destroying the Oil economy that ostensibly funds the jihadists ultimately? Technological change is doing that now, ever so slowly, but it will ultimately happen. Forward thinking planners in Middle Eastern countries might reinvest in alternate economic development, not dependent on petroleum production... if cooler heads prevail.

But we know that the Jihadist agenda is meant to be implemented much sooner than the predicted sweeping fuel cell or fusion based energy revolutions can be. So, would we scuttle the ship to drown the boarding pirates? Even if we put our own economies in peril? I guess it depends on how bad things get, which is the point of the preceding article. Plenty of speculation on these themes can be expected in coming months and years, so either get ready for it, and the decisions required thereof, or prepare to bury head in sand, and I'll see you at the Ostrich Festival in Chandler, AZ in March of 2007. You will be the main attraction.
