A Loss for Lieberman Would Be a Win for Progressives (BARF ALERT!)
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | Jesse Jackson

Posted on 08/08/2006 11:04:07 PM PDT by Old Guard Conservative

Joe Lieberman has been in the Senate for 18 years. He's a leader of the Democratic Leadership Council, the money wing of the party. He became the party's vice presidential nominee, even as he championed the DLC's "triangulating" politics, pushing off of the Democratic Party base to demonstrate his "independence" by embracing key elements of the conservative agenda -- championing the war in Iraq, attacking affirmative action, pushing capital gains tax cuts that benefit only the very wealthy.

Now he's pushed off so long, he seems confused about whom or what he represents. He now says he's a good Democrat, but he's collecting petitions to run as a third party man if he loses the primary today. He now says he's a critic of the war, even though Bush gave him a famous kiss to thank him for his unstinting support. He now says dissent is good, when before he essentially challenged the patriotism of critics.

But voters in Connecticut aren't trying to purge Lieberman. They like the man; they are just voting for someone who represents their views rather than abandons them to the prevailing winds. This isn't personal, Joe, it's principled. And if he loses, Lieberman won't be purged from the party. Instead, he apparently plans to leave it himself to set up his own party. The final push-off.

And that will then be the test of the Democratic leadership. They trooped in to tell Connecticut voters to swallow their principles and stay with an incumbent who doesn't represent them. If Lamont does win on Tuesday, they need to respect the will of those same voters -- and stump for Lamont publicly while privately telling Lieberman to accept his defeat honorably.

Pollsters tell Democrats that they suffer an "identity gap." People just don't know what they stand for anymore. Lamont's challenge to Lieberman has already begun to change that. Lieberman, at the very least, has gotten the message. And the DLC -- the Democrats for the Leisure Class -- are beginning to learn that working Americans are looking not for politicians who duck and cover, but for leaders who will stand and fight.

It's a win, yes. Let them shoot themselves in the foot. Now people will be able to see the real face of the Dem-Maoist party.

Not sure why you feel this is a Barf alert. This is good news for us!

Lieberman is a decent guy and the rats just threw him out of a sinking life boat. The problem is not too much weight, it's the hole in the bottom of the boat.

They are just too stupid to see it.

I just can't stop laughing at this! Good ol' Je$$e Jack$on says that the avowed cut-and-run party is going to "stand and fight" - for WHAT?!?! What a bunch of losers these dems are!

Yes Jesse, you'll surely "win" by defeating the "real Vice President". Oh wait, Dick Cheney already did that. Gee, you should thank us for making sure Loserman didn't get promoted six years ago.

A "win" for anti-war Progressives in CT is a win for Conservatives nation-wide.

When Charlemagne had finished building his Empire in 799, the Pope crowned him at a coronation ceremony proclaiming him the New Roman Emperor. This seemingly innocous act led to a fight that would last for centuries: who was the real king maker the Church or the State?

Tonight as I write this a similar coronation is going on in Ct. The sitting three term incumbent Joe Lieberman has been defeated by a political unknown Ned Lamont. (This is unusual because Joe is only the fourth Senator to lose a primary since 1980.)

Lamont is defined politically almost solely by his opposition to the war in Iraq. But the interesting part is the people who back him. Dubbed the "Netroots" it's an interesting patchwork of far left wing blog sites like DailyKos and MoveOn.Org. These people sent all kinds of money to Lamont who is a millionaire turning what is traditionally viewed as a local battle into a full scale national war.

Although they have found a narrow victory (Lamont catching 144,005 to Lieberman's 134,026, with 98 percent of precincts reporting) these people will be hailing a "major truimph".

This is going to leave moderate Democrats in pickle because the fringe's message isn't going to resonate with most people, and having most of the votes is what they need to win. If the attempt to appeal to the moderate base, they're going to lose the fringe and there aren't enough moderate Democrats to win anything either. Unfortunately, the fringe knows this and like the Pope's of old will excommunicate Democrat that refuses to tow their views.

Thus while anti war activists celebrate their victory, the real disaster and fight for the Democratic soul is looming ahead.

You guys took him along with Sharpton. Ha! happy landings.

We kicked his sorry backside out of Chicago long ago. We would'nt honor anyone associated with this pig.
But the east coast moonbats are gonna sink with this creepy

progressives aka commies better enjoy this while they can because Lieberman will most likely be elected senator from Connecticutt AS AN INDEPENDENT!!! This could be huge for Republicans not just for defense but also for many other issues that Lieberman is sympathetic to conservative ideals like education. He will not have to answer to any Dem pressure on votes. He can tell them where they can go. That doesn't mean he'll magically turn into a conservative, but it can be nothing but good for Republicans in the long haul.

Je$$e is too stupid for words. At least Lieberman see's what the left wing bloggers have done to the party for the last 6 years. The old guard of the democrat party had a chance to wrest control from the kook-fringe element hellbent on taking over the party for the last 6 years, but Je$$e's myopic view just can't see it. Welcome to your new democrat party Je$$e. Enjoy it while it lasts. You too might find yourself thrown to the wind eventually. You're just a useless shill for the kook-fringe element among you.

Progressive = Dhimmi = Socialist = Progressive = Dhimmi = Dead to me and most of the nation.

imo, this is a meme to keep out there: Progressives are by their nature submissive dumbasses incapable of individual triumph of any sort. Dhimmi's are by their nature submissive dumbasses incapable of individual triumph of any sort.

We have a situation where enemies of western civilization (dhimmis) and enemies of the Constitution (progressives) are the exact same people. That helps us both in target acquisition and at the polls.

just my 2 cents, mileage, as always, varies

Progressives are not just passive, they are actively shilling for the other side! They are secret Nazis, and Chomsky is their imam. Let's not forget the possibility that they will all convert to Islam, like Johnny Taliban. They are motivated by the same thing as the Islamists: hatred for the West.

Progressives want nothing more than to 'progress' into living under a repressive regime, a la Cuba or Iran.

"Leaders who will stand and fight"!!! Ha,ha,ha! The only real difference between Joe and Ned was that Ned's mantra is "cut and run"! Jesse at his stupidest.
