Ed Koch: I'm Backing Independent Lieberman
New York's "Mayor for Life" and one of the country's most prominent Democrats says he's backing Joe Lieberman's independent run for U.S. Senate.
"There's no blood oath binding him not to run as an independent," Edward Koch told NewsMax.
Koch predicts that Lieberman, running as an independent, would win the general election handily. He also noted that Lieberman would continue to caucus with Democrats when he takes his seat in the Senate.
Even though he's in trouble with the extreme left wing of his party, Lieberman, like most Democrats, was right to support President Bush on the War in Iraq, says Koch.
"The issue of terrorism is the only issue on which I agree with the president, but it goes to the issue of the survival of this country, to its very existence," he explained...

We are witnessing the birth of a new American political party.
Let's call it the Patriot Party. :)
divide the left wing vote and concentrate to the right center!
Fiorello LaGaurdia?
Yep. The Little Flower hisself...I'd put Koch up there with him...of course, not at the time he was mayor. when he was mayor, he was scum...
By switching Parties, Lieberman has cost the Dems a sitting Senator. There are now only 43 Democratic Party Senators left in Congress, plus the 2 Independents of Lieberman and Jeffords.
We need a Patriot Party
"Didnt Koch back Bush too?"
Very much so. In the US as well as in the Israeli press. I don't know that he'll be able to do anything for Lieberman but I'm confident he impacted President Bush's re-election efforts.
would continue to caucus with Democrats
Koch gets it, and so does Lieberman. The damndest thing is that most of the left doesn't get it, and they are eager to take us all down with their sorry asses.
Koch also loves Hillary.
I don't even know who the Republican is...does he have a chance?
But, Mike, Koch is a HIllary supporter for president, and he claims that she really has gone to the middle ground. Not hardly, when she goes around saying things like, "We may have to take things away from you for the common good." Worse yet, she's still talking about health care, HER way.
Miller-Lieberman?
True, but 2008 is two years away. Lets use Koch while we can :-)
"How am I doin'?" Loch
Can I wash your windshield-Koch/ It's okay to sleep in Grand Central Station-Koch.
No chance at all. I understand he has some legal problems.
---divide the left wing vote and concentrate to the right center!---
Yep, the Dims are busy outflanking themselves to the left, leaving the road to Washington open.
He and Lieberman are Americans first. I don't care for their political viewpoints but they are few and far between honest guys. In that respect, they're golden.
Rudy, on the other hand, came in and went right to work ... cleaning up much of the corruption and crime, getting the municipal unions back into line, restoring Times Square as a prime tourist destination, and generally making NYC 'inhabitable' again. Rudy's reforms are still being felt to this day and stand as a testament that no deteriorating environment is beyond salvation
Rudy got slammed by hard-core lefties on this front, but he got results and thats all that matter .... and remember this all occurred before 9/11
This reminds me......
If Kerry or Gore wins the dem nomination, then Hillary will surely run as an "independent".
Me: I don't even know who the Republican is...does he have a chance?
Chuck: No chance at all. I understand he has some legal problems.
Then I can see the argument to support Joe as the best available choice.
