Babies in new cig warnings (3rd hand smoke)

BABIES IN NEW CIGS WARNING

BABIES whose parents smoke take in "third hand smoke" from touching furniture as they crawl around the home, warn scientists.

Infants may unwittingly be being put at risk of lung disease by simply hugging mums and dads who light up - even if they only smoke outside.

Chemicals stick to walls, clothes, hair and skin warns Georg Matt, a professor at San Diego State University. Early research suggests they can be swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin of non-smokers.

His study of 49 tots aged under 13 months found cotine - a by-product of nicotine - in their urine and hair shafts.

However, scientists do not yet know much about the risks. One said: "The million-dollar question is: How dangerous is this?"

Well goodness, all those parents started smoking outside instead of quitting. Guess the antis needed to come up with another scare tactic.

If your baby played in a chimney, would you be surprised that he'd absorb some of the residue sticking to the walls?

No, but would not need a study to know that either :)

When one takes a pretty common sense issue and makes a study out of it then it hits the news we all know the end result - idiots in power will run like scared babies to pass laws.

First it was the smoke that was bad for you. Then it was secondhand smoke bad for everyone else. Now we are not even talking about smoke.

Next we should outlaw cars, exhaust, volcanoes, and similar items (not to mention coal burning, backyard fires, camp fires, and so on).

Amazing the human race has survived this long. I wonder how the Japanese do it?

This is getting silly --- and scary.

Cigarette smoke is not the only "toxic" substance humans are exposed to from birth.
Is this so-called scientist suggesting that babies develop and grow in a sterile bubble?

I would love to hear from the immunologists on this.
This "doctor" is either very young or incompetent.

I remember before my daughter was born the Dr asked if either of us smoked. I did. She said I shouldn't handle the baby after smoking as the residue on my clothes could be harmful to it.

I guess too that means if I were to go to a friends house and they smoked the same applies. Or if I am outside in LA on a bad smog day too. I dunno...

The tobacco nazis will never stop as long as there's a lawsuit in the offing, and a scumbag lawyer in the wings.

BULLSHIT!!

Long time, Arthur. Good to see you again. Stay well(rt clk)............FRegards

What kind of "scientist" says $hit like this?

Oh, I know. The bought-and-paid-for kind driven by the "guy who writes the checks"' agenda.

If cigarette smoke is so deadly, you wouldn't want to be near me after tig-welding aluminum. You'd die on the spot!

I really don't know how we could all still be alive......

It must be a miracle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who should be surprised by this? After successfully banning smoking in practically every public place, the next logical step is to go after smoking in private homes.

We'll start hearing about more of these studies.
